This was inspired by 'Mum', a poem written by Hotspur. I used water-colouring pencils to draw/paint this so I wasn't sure which category it went under.
Mum
Mom, you took me by the hand
And taught me gentleness and love
Surrounded by such warlike hawks
Why did you care about me, a helpless dove?
I was not a fire-bending prodigy
Nor in school, did I ever excel
Yet no matter how I failed
You always told me I did well
Maybe you saw something in me
Something that I cannot comprehend
Mom, you were more than just a parent
You were my teacher, you were my friend
The frozen day we separated
Was the last day I knew of peace
Now inside is a cold emptiness
A sorrow that will never cease
The air no longer feels as fresh
The skies are no longer blue
Food forever has lost its taste
Life is meaningless without you
Father never spoke your name again
Azula did not ever shed a tear
I wandered the halls alone
Hoping your voice I would hear
Mom, you saw the best in me
You lifted my spirits when I fell
Each moment without your loving smile
Hurts me more than I can tell
Though I stand exiled and disgraced
I vow to change and make you proud
Though every door is closed before me
I stand defiant, not ashamed and cowed
Mum, although you are far from me
I always keep your words at my side
I’ll keep fighting, no matter what
Because of you, I stand with pride
And though the world turns its back
And my life seems like endless night
Though fate has left me on the rack
I won’t give up without a fight
