again the shape of the head makes me think more Jimmy Neutron than anime. Anime heads arn;t that long and are not so triangular. And you're trying to draw too much of the mouth. A mouth is only one or two lines in anime. (that's a generalization, but still...)
Try drawing the characters in the original style before you modify them.
