Chapter 1 - Part one

Kate was waking up from her comatose state. All of her friends were gathered in the one small room watching her. Her boyfriend sat on the edge of the bed with her hand in his. Kate opened her eyes and looked around. A smile appeared on her face as her mind started to clear of the darkness that was still clouding it. She looked right at the blonde standing at the foot of the bed. She tilted her head and looked at him confused. She recognized him, but as someone else. She smiled very brightly and jumped into his arms. Her head rested on his shoulder as she whispered something into his ear. “Shaun I've missed you so much. I thought you would never come back.” Kate would then kiss him passionately.



Joey stood as still as stone as she kissed him. He was now very confused as to what was going on. He wondered who this Shaun guy was. At that very moment everything in his mind raced. He couldn't do anything to get the girl off of him with an overloaded mind. She still kept hold of the kiss for another while.



Seto watched Kate move as if in slow motion. He didn't understand what she was doing. Then he stared at her confused as hell as she started to kiss Joey. He didn't know if this was another one of her crude jokes or something else. Then he saw the look on Joey's face, he too didn't know what was going on. Seto shook his head and tried to gather his thoughts. As he did this he looked around. Everyone in the room was as confused as he was. `Okay so what is she doing? Why is she doing it?' He asked himself as his mind was suddenly filled with odd memories. They weren't his own, but someone else's. He watched and saw someone that resembled Joey, but yet he knew it wasn't him. He thought that these memories belonged to Kate. It would make sense and why she was kissing Joey still. He decided to stop this before it got to out of hand. ~Kate what do you think you are doing?!~



Kate blink once upon hearing the brunette CEO in the back of her head. She regained her senses and looked into the eyes of the one she was kissing. Her eyes went huge and she broke off the kiss. She sweat dropped and rubbed the back of her head. “I'm sorry, but this isn't the first time I have been put into a coma due to the darkness.” She told the group as she found an interesting spot to stare at on the floor. “I've never told anybody about my past. Not even Seto-sama. Seto is my second love, my first died very painfully.” She fought back tears as she spoke. “Joe looks so much like him that it's almost scary. Then when we started sparring your moves were just like his.”



Joey listened to all of this still confused. He nodded his head and gave her a smile. “Is dat why ya keep starin at me like dat?” He asked remembering the one time in the library when she was staring at him. It made him feel very uncomfortable, but now he understood why she did it. “Why didn't ya say somethin before now? It would have made things a whole lot easier on everyone.”



Kate sat on the bed still staring at the floor. She didn't want to look into the faces of her friends. “Yeah I know it would have, but you don't understand the complexity of the situation. It's the reason this sword still haunts me when I travel.” She sighed deeply and looked into the eyes of the young CEO. She could tell that he was angry and confused by the current situation. “I'm sorry for not letting you know sooner.”



Seto seemed a bit hurt by this comment. He's been into the deepest parts of her mind, but this was something she hid even from herself. Those times were because of some accident that he still blames Kate for causing. Seto now looked away from Kate and at Joey. The poor fool didn't know what he was getting himself into when he decided to come to their home. Seto just shook his head unable to think of anything to say to her. Yet he couldn't blame her for hiding it though. There was still a few things he was hiding from her too.



Sora stood off to one side of the room. He didn't know these people well enough to get involved in their little situation. Yet he was still curious about what had made everyone so edgy though. Maybe this girl did have other brush ins with dark creatures that no one understood. That would also answer his questions on why they chose her to unlock the door. The sword she was referring to he saw Seto use it earlier and light escaped from the sword when Seto got really pissed. It would explain why he complained about not feeling her. This situation was really confusing to someone who just jumped into this lot without knowing the complications of their lives.



Yugi looked at Kate and then at Seto. He could feel the tension forming between the two. He believed that the fact that Kate was keeping things from all of them that would turn into this tension. He leaned over to Ines and whispered something to her. “This doesn't look like it is going to end to well. Who knows what each of them is thinking.”



Ines just shook her head and looked at Joey with sorrow filled eyes. “Poor Joey though. He didn't even see Kate ever doing that again. The first time was because Kaiba was in his body.” She sighed and looked at Kate. Kate looked very depressed at the moment when the silence grew between her and the two guys.



Rayko rubbed the back of his neck. He knew Shaun, maybe a little better than anyone wanted, but he was just watching out for his cousin. Now he was the only one left that had any solid memories of the guy after his death. He was fighting back the sorrow he was feeling having the memories of a dear friend shoved back in his face after a few years.



Kate lightly grabbed the sides of Seto's head and turned him to face her. She stared into his ice blue eyes with sadness in her eyes. “I'm sorry I never told you about that. It's just that I'm happier not remembering the time I was with him. To tell the truth I wish it were just erased from my mind forever. Besides you're the one I love now.” She told him still holding his head. She smiled brightly and then kissed him lightly on the lips. She flushed afterwards and let go of him. She continued to stare into his face waiting for him to do or say anything.



Seto flushed too after the kiss. He then looked at her somewhat worried. “Exactly who was this guy? And why did you keep his existence a secret all this time?” These were just a few of the many question that were now floating through his mind. He knew that Kate knew about all of the question by the look that she gave him. “So will you explain it to me?” Looks around. “Us?”



Joey had gotten over the fact that he was kissed at this point. He now stood there waiting for a good explanation to the situation. He crossed his arms over his chest and started to tap his foot. “Can I please see wat dis guy looked like? I just wanna know if he is better lookin den me.” He put on a sly grin while everyone else sweat dropped.



Kate decided to answer him after he answered Seto. “I'll explain it more when we get home. I really don't want to think more about it now.” She sighed and turned to Joey. “Fine Joe, but you have to come to me. I still feel a little weak.” She smiled up at the blonde as he headed over to her. She took his right hand with both of hers. With tears now flowing from her eyes she allowed him to see the Shaun as she saw him the very first time.



Joey watched it play in the back of his mind like an old tape. Shaun did look eerily like him, but Shaun had deep blue eyes where his were a rich chocolate color. Then it came to him like a flash, hundreds of gross looking creatures attacking Shaun. Shaun tried to fight them off without success. Then it was gone just as quickly as it came. Joey blinked a few times and looked at Kate. She was now crying into Seto's shoulder. “What happened to him?”


Ines watched as Kate held Joey's hand. She didn't know what was going on, but something she was doing really upset her. Tears started to flood out of Kate's eyes as she let go of Joey and immediately placed her head on Seto's shoulder. Ines couldn't help, but feel sorry for Kate. She only knew what Kate had just told them, but having a love taken away in any matter would make someone very upset. The next thing she knew was that Yugi had pulled her into a hug. She sighed and wrapped her arms around him. She fought back her own tears as she thought about what she might do if any of her friends were taken from her suddenly.



Rayko knew what had made Kate break down like that. The scene of Shaun getting murdered by the hideous creatures. He didn't see the thing first hand, but Kate had told him the whole thing in grotesque detail only a few days later. He sat on the table and now tried to fight away his own tears that were trying to escape his eyes. It must have been hard on someone's mind to see the only person they loved get torn to shreds by ugly little demons. He buried his face into his hands trying to fight the tears.



Kate had her face buried deep into Seto's left shoulder. Her arms wrapped tightly around the same arm. She wanted to speak, but couldn't find her voice at the moment. So she did the next best thing and spoke through both of the boys she was mentally linked with now. “Shaun was torn to shreds by the vicious little creatures. I had warned him not to follow me, but he did anyways. I had ran out of energy by that time and somehow Valentine knew he was coming. So he set up a trap in order to abuse me even more.” The only reason both Seto and Joey were saying this was because Kate didn't have the mind to concentrate on just one. Then the scene of Shaun's death was suddenly in her mind, which caused both Seto and Joey to see it.



Seto got a look of pure horror on his face as he was forced to see it. He, and more then like Joey as well, felt the same raw emotions that Kate was feeling at that time. He started to unintentionally rub Kate's back with his free hand. He then whispered to her as he watched Shaun scream in pain. “Calm down. Clear your mind and take a few deep breathes.” His voice was rather calm and soothing for someone watching a replay of someone else getting torn to pieces.



Joey started to back up as the site played before him. He looked utterly scared and he would yelp every now and then. He didn't want to see this or feel these emotions anymore. Yet he couldn't stop it from happening. He had himself backed against the wall and was now sitting on the floor. He pulled his legs in close to his chest and started to cry.



Sora looked at Joey confused. He didn't understand why the guy was so upset by something that wasn't even there. Then he remembered hearing Kate's voice come out of both of the guys' mouths. This had to be caused by the same thing, what it was Sora didn't have any clue. The fact that this was so confusing was one of the reasons Sora was still there. If Kate hadn't kissed Joey he would have left after she woke up, but now he wanted some answers about these people.



Yugi watched the frightened Joey with a deep look of empathy. He was still holding Ines as she started to cry. He rubbed her head and looked over at Kate. “Kate you have to stop this now. Look at what you are doing.” He shouted somewhat harshly, but he still sounded absolutely polite.



Kate removed her head from Seto's shoulder and looked at Joey. She quickly got up and went over to him. She started to shake him and talk to him. “Joey calm down. I'm here and you are not there. Please come back to us.” She spoke calmly as she tried to clear her own head. She was hoping Joey would be okay after this.



As Kate was clearing her mind the scene before Joey started to haze and then disappear. He was placed in the green hotel room. Everything was bigger around him and he wondered why. He looked at Kate still scared and now confused as well. “What happened? Is that what happened to him?” His eyes now started to burn so he touched his cheek and felt the wetness there. That's when he realized he was on the floor and had been crying. The emotions Kate had felt at that time hade overpowered his own. Now he felt weak and helpless. He looked into the tear stained face of Kate wanting answers.



Kate looked at him and bit her lower lip. Shaun would give her that same sad and pathetic look when he wanted to hold her. “Yes Joey that is how he died. Till this day I had wished he would somehow come back. I'm now believe he did.” She took a box of tissues of the table next to them and sat on him. She started to wipe away the tears on Joey's face.

Seto looked at her wondering what she was doing now. “You know that is Wheeler right?” He asked hoping she didn't lose her mind again. He actually felt uneasy with her sitting on Joey that way. He then looked at the other members of their party and sighed. Each one of them seemed completely upset about one matter or another. Of course he was having his own problems, but he didn't want to involve anyone in them. He then turned back to the two over in the corner.



“Yes Seto I'm aware that he is Joey and not Shaun.” She still sat on Joey's lap, but now she was cleaning her own face. “I'm sorry Joey for causing you my pain. But I believe Shaun has come back though. Back as you.” She told him with a smile on her face. She then gave him a hug. “We can still be friends right?” She asked with joy in her voice now.



“Yeah, but why do ya think I'm him?” He said while still being hugged. He smiled and hugged her back. “I dun think anything could ruin our friendship.” He then lightly pushed her off of him and got to his feet. “So please Kate dun do things like dat again. It might just damage our relationship.” He helped her up giving her an odd corky smile.



Kate looked at him for a moment and Shaun disappeared from him. She then cracked up laughing. “If you keep making faces like that I'll never confuse you for Shaun again.” She leaned on him to keep from falling over as she laughed.


Rayko smiled at his cousin as he watched her change moods quickly. This was the Kate he grew up with. “I think you could have put that a little nicer Kate-chan.” He comment on the shot down look on Joey's face. He couldn't help, but start laughing himself.



Seto just stared at her wonder what he saw in this girl. He never would have excepted to fall for someone so stupid a few years ago. `I think it was because you are everything I could never imagine to be. Something inside of me told me to allow you into my life. Why do you still ruin my life though?' He rested his hand on his forehead and looked at her. `What kind of influence have you been on me? If it wasn't for you I don't think I would be here ever.' He then looked around the room and realized that Kate was nowhere in the room. “Where did that stubborn, love struck, woman go now?”


“She went into the hallway to clear her mind I think.” Rayko told him as he got up. He started to get things ready for their departure to unknown lands. He looks over at Joey. “Hey Joey-kun can you give me a hand with this stuff?” He asked Joey as he started putting things in a box.


Joey looked at Rayko somewhat confused. “Um sure.” He goes and helps him.



Seto watched them for a moment and then turned and headed out of the room. He looked around the hallway and didn't see Kate in the building. He would then open the link he shared with Kate. ~Kate where did you run off to now? Are you outside?~ He asked as he walked outside and saw her sitting on the small wall over looking the fountain. He walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. “You okay? What are you doing out here by yourself? Especially after what you just woke up from.” His voice started off calm and soothing, and then he sound harsh and mean.



She put her arms over his and sighed heavily. “No I'm not okay. The past I've hidden from everyone, even myself, comes back to bite me in the @$$ at the worst possible moment. If you don't want to talk to me you don't have to Seto-sama.” She told him as she tried to sort out her own feelings. She really didn't want to hurt him at the moment. She couldn't help but feel the past feeling for Shaun. It was only a natural response to remembering the past. She leaned back onto him.



Seto allowed her to lean on him. “Actually I want to hear about this. I want to know what I have to do to make you happy.” He smiled down at her when she tilted her head backwards to look at him. “Am I not allow to listen to you for once? You seem to be having problems and you'll only act better if you get everything off your chest.” He leaned over and kissed her forehead.



“Seto-sama why are you acting this way?” She seemed confused but overly happy that Seto was acting this way. She could feel deep down that he was actual going to hear everything she said to him. “I want to always be by your side Seto-sama.” Her voice was cracked with tears and sorrow. Seto then removed his arms from around her. She looked at him and watched him walk next to her. He sat on the wall next to her and she cuddled with him. “I've known him through out most of my school years. I grew up with him and have plenty of fond memories of him. I later realized that we were forced to be friends. Shortly after we started high school weird things started to happen around me.” She realized she had started crying and her tears were being wiped away.
