Am I ready to fly?

I want to fly high, and be free forever,

but I'm scared to leave.

I want to stay in my mother's protective grasp,

my father's watchful eyes,

and my teachers' guiding ways.

Am I ready to fly?

My friends and I think we're ready,

but yet, I'm still not sure.

I know my wings are fully developed,

and part of me wants to go ahead and soar high and far,

but still, another part says stay, and wait five more years.

Am I ready to fly?

This decision seems hard, but I know I can make it.

My journey is from a hatchling to an adult bird.

Once I'm ready, I'll spread my wings

and soar high and far.

But the question still remains:

Am I ready to fly?
