Promises





I promised myself I would not cry,

Yet I shed tear after tear,

Salted lips cracked and dry,

This pain will not sear,

 

I promised myself I would not bleed,

Though the blood is flowing yet,

Cutting portions of my skin,

Trying to forget,

 

I promised myself I would not give up,

Though all I do is sleep,

Looking to the heaves above,

Asking them my soul to keep,

 

I promised myself I would not die,

Though I feel like am dead,

Sitting alone cold and sick,

Spending most of my time in bed,

 

I promised myself all of these things,

Though I am nothing but a lair,

Watching my life end again,

Watching my grief spread like wild fire.

 

Losing a love that was so true,

I swear she was my one,

Never again to see her smile,

The past is all but undone,

 

SO I can promise myself so many things,

Pretend that I am strong,

The fact of the matter is this my friends,

She was the love for which I long....
