One Last Time

The sleepless nights I've pondered

If there really is a heaven

And if you're even up there

At this I am not certain



Or sometimes I just wonder

If there's actually an afterlife

Maybe we just simply stop existing

Or perhaps become a poltergeist



Perhaps I'm just aimlessly wondering

About things that aren't important

Unlike school and such

But then again, I am redundant



Like right now, you have crossed my mind

Just randomly it seems

But when I get to thinking

You've come to me in dreams



Telling me you're okay

That for me not to worry

And also, not to cry

For you are like a winter flurry



Falling down gracefully toward the ground

Filling all around you with joy

And land so delicately on the ground

And even play coy



Perhaps you last awhile

Until the day warms up

And you start to fade away

And I hold you, pick you up



I cry and cry as you slowly leave

Frantic about your pain

And what I will do without you

As your blood smears on my shirt and stains



You look at me quivering

Whimpering from the immense pain

And I look down at you

Noticing you do not look the same



You do not look like the carefree friend I once knew

Nor are you groomed the same

Your hair matted with blood

The look in your eyes of pain



Now I stare deep into your eyes

Wishing to do it over again

Perhaps I could have saved you

And you would have never been slain



I now see the light go slowly from your eyes

The look of pain slowly disappearing

I let out a shaky sigh as I realize

Your heart slowing its beating



I look to you, you look to me

We both stare at each other

I kiss you upon your head

And hug you tighter than ever



You grunt slightly and let out a whine

You lift your head up, ears down sadly

And give me a kiss…one last time
