Chapter 1 - Death
He takes a deep breath
He reaches for the car door
He hears the mingled shouts of his children
He rises from the car
He sees the green grass
He sees the playground
He sees the open fields
He begins to chase his kids
He almost catches one
He sees a steep hill before him
He sees tripping
He sees falling
He sees rolling
He sees no more
He falls forward face first
He rolls
and rolls
and rolls
He stops in front of his oldest child
He sits up looking around
He sees something which thoroughly confuses him
He sees snow all around him
He feels cold beneath his hands
He feels confused
He feels like the sun is on top of him
He feels like there is no moisture left
He hears birds all around
He can’t see any
He hears spring
He smells silence
He knows it should be daylight
He sees nighttime
He sees trees surrounding him
He remembers being in open fields
He knows what happened
He doesn’t know why
He knows why his son is standing in front of him
He didn’t expect to see him again
He knows he won’t miss his other children
He can’t understand that
He knows he won’t miss his wife
He can’t believe that
He knows he led a good life
He thinks he did
He lets himself fall over in the snow
He wished that he could have lived longer
He knew that it would happen eventually
He didn’t want it to
He hoped to see his wife and children again
He didn’t want that to happen
He knew that life was just beginning
He knew that he would be happy
He knew…
He thought…
He knows…
He thinks…
He hears…
He smells…
He sees…
He remembers…
He hopes…
He desires…
He wishes…
He knows he can’t change anything
He wanted to live
He wanted to say “I love you”
He wanted to hug and kiss his kids
He wanted to hug and kiss his wife
He wanted to say goodbye
He reaches for the car door
He hears the mingled shouts of his children
He rises from the car
He sees the green grass
He sees the playground
He sees the open fields
He begins to chase his kids
He almost catches one
He sees a steep hill before him
