Blog Entry: World of GeneX - Cream the Rabbit
Since Easter was last week, this week's article will be about Cream! We'll also consider this Cheese's article, because really... Cheese isn't interesting enough for his own article. Anyway, this is about the GeneX incarnation of Cream & Cheese. On the surface, all the official characters seem pretty much the same as their game counterparts in the GeneX series. But after 7 years, there is one key difference: extra storyline!
In GeneX, Cream is one of the first official characters we encounter. Until the 5th Anniversary Special, she even preempted Sonic chronologically! Though her roles in each story tend to be small, her GeneX self has proven to be deceptively brave, willing to follow her friends into dangerous places like Darkegg Fortress, Shadow Arcangel, and the world of Mephiles's creation, Time Collision. With Cheese at her side, she's shown herself to be quite a feisty little bunny, helping Tails in his climactic battle with Bucky in a late chapter of Tails the Fox. Despite this, the more timid side of her personality is still alive and well, like in a very recent chapter when she came to Knuckles crying, scared of ghosts.
At times in the GeneX series, she has been shown to be perhaps a bit protective of Tails. Not long ago, we found out why. It turns out, this version of Cream has a bit of a crush on Tails, and finally decided to act on her feelings for the Festival of Romance. The two having really hit it off on their little date, one wonders how these lovebirds will fare in the long run?
Cream has appeared in the majority of stories in the GeneX series. I was gonna do a list, but it was ending up too long! She may only appear briefly in some stories, but she seems to be a permanent fixture in the GeneX universe...unlike in the games.
Author's Commentary!
I don't think I will normally do commentary for official characters, but I wanted to talk about a couple things. Firstly, no, I do not hate Cheese. (lol) I say that because I always seem to fail to mention him when Cream appears on the scene, until he is needed. I just tend to feel that it is assumed that Cheese is accompanying her.
So, Cream and Tails went on a date last year. For a long time, I have resisted pairing off the official characters within my fanfics. It seemed like a minefield. Everyone has their opinions; what if Sega suddenly decided to make an official pairing?? Those were both reasons that held me back. Then I finally realized that Sega is going NOWHERE with the series's storyline. I also had decided I wanted to do something of a Valentine's Day Special. I couldn't do that and not have one of the three couples' storylines end successfully. (If you read the chapter, you know there were 3 couples) I went with Tails and Cream because well... honestly, I'd been thinking about that from the beginning. Why else would Cream show up to help Tails at such pivotal points in "Tails the Fox"?
Why haven't I continued their romance since then? Well, I don't really want to alter the story structure, for one thing. If it becomes convenient, I'll work on it... except I'm still not sure how readers feel about it. Feel free to tell me what you think while I consider the next "World of GeneX" article!
