World of GeneX - Tabitha the Cat

Tabitha is an orange cat wearing a witch's costume. Except, it isn't a costume. Tabitha is the resident witch of the GeneX series!

So far, she appears exclusively in the Halloween Specials, with her first appearence being in the second special, Spell of the Shadows. Her primary goal is to ressurrect the "Lord of Nightmares," with a secondary general goal of expanding the Nightmare Zone to increase the evil power of her and her minions. To these ends, she teams up with Dr. Eggman and even the Lost Ones. However, she is a powerful villainess in her own right, with deadly spells and a flying broomstick to aid her in menacing the survivors in the Nightmare Zone.

When Sonic and his companions stopped her Spell of the Shadows, she retaliated by casting a curse on Sonic, changing him into a bloodthirsty Werehog during the full moon. During "The Black Curse," Tabitha took over the Dream Temple for her scheme, but when Sonic and friends messed it up again, she turned the Dream King into a fearsome monster! Sonic managed to defeat the monster, and Tabitha removed his curse along the way, since he'd learned to control the Werehog.

In "The Heartless Machine", Tabitha made a brief visit to the woods where the Nightmare Zone saga began, so that she could acquire the Master Emerald for use in her plan in "The Black Curse." Illusi had stashed the emerald in the crashed Shadow Arcangel.

Tabitha also appeared in the 6th Nightmare Zone special, where she cast spells on Sonic and Gator as they slept, causing them to have bad dreams. This particular special would appear not to be canon, but there's no good reason why it can't have happened between major storylines.

Tabitha is a cruel and vicious villain, murdering several characters in her efforts to ressurrect the Lord of Nightmares. Her plans seem to require it to be Halloween Night in order to be successful, though. With Halloween approaching yet again, she is surely scheming something... Could the third time be the charm?


Author Commentary!

When I decided to do annual Halloween specials, I felt a desire to create a specifically Halloween-themed character. That's Tabitha. She's pretty much a generic witch... and admittedly, I always feel like I should be able to do better with her. We are entering into the last annual Halloween Special this year, so this may be it for Tabitha in the Nightmare Zone. Still, I feel like there's so much more I could do with her, so maybe we'll see her in the official GeneX universe at some point. Naturally, the canon version of Tabitha will have to be considerably less lethal... I can't be killing off characters every time Tabitha graces us with her presence. All the death in the Nightmare Zone caused me "casting issues" in the long run.

Anyway, Nightmare Zone 8 is actually already posted. It is the conclusion to the overarching story of which Tabitha has been the primary antagonist for many years. I have even thought to imply that she was behind the events in the first special, but I think I'd rather leave that open to interpretation. I hope everyone who ever had an interest in the specials will read this year's grand finale to the Nightmare Zone saga. I put lots of effort into it, and it should be especially great for people who read each episode in the series. But if you only read this article so far, this and Xenegg's article should get you up to speed enough. Anyway, I very much wrote this article assuming people haven't read this year's special yet, so I kept it spoiler-free in that regard.
