Hey everyone, as I mentioned earlier, I've been going through some personal things. I'm back, sort of, although I am still extremely busy.
Anyway, I've been working at a different job since I last posted. It's much better, less stressful. My husband and I have moved into our own house, and I am enjoying my garden, BBQing and entertaining...
I'm thinking I may once again become a little more active in the winter with submissions, or at least checking out everyone's galleries to see how they've evolved since I left!
Or you are welcome to visit and comment on my blogs:

Thank you, but I prefer not to get chain letters in my profile... Being married 10 years I don't really need to find my true love (I'm married to him LOL) and most of my friends are married.... So I appreciate the offer and the sentiment, but I don't send people chainletters because it isn't really a personal message.

Yeah, me too... I've been a bad bad girl... I've been busy at this new job and just when I think I have it figured out, it turns out I haven't quite mastered it. One of these days soon I will get to your request! I will let you know as soon as I start: it's been in my brain, but I haven't had the energy or the time to put it on paper yet. I might even use my brother as inspiration; he's sort of got an urban look to him, and he's lived on the street and hung out with a tough crowd when he was younger. Sort of could go with a demeanor somewhere in between Spawn/Hellboy/The Punisher/ and Charles Dickens/George Orwell/e e cummings

Hey don't feel bad! I've been trying to adapt to a very challenging job. They keep telling me I'm doing great and I'm picking things up more quickly than they expected, but some days it seems a bit overwhelming... I am getting a little antsy though about not drawing anything for a couple of months, so that's a good sign I suppose. Nice to hear from you! Stay in touch!

I went out with my hubby to a party this evening and I am sooo tired right now! lol I am going to bed right after this!

LOL Suspicious?? Meh, I just use it as a network to gab mostly -- it's sort of like text messaging only it's purely for the PC/Desktop computer. I'm too cheap to buy a cell phone yet, but I think this is the closest I've ever gotten! LOL It's free too. It's just an invitation, so don't feel any pressure! LOL

don't worry, in fact, i go stright to these suspicious links at first sight... xD, but i'm a little old to learn new tricks, i'm never online and i have to share my internet with pizza request and sex by phone calls(i'm on dial-up... xD), when i get a working decent conection i'll check it out ^_^, for now, thanks again, you really make this day a happy one for me, it was all grim and boring, odd thing too, because it's my birthday.... xD, i'll stop ranting now... bye

Thanks for dropping me a line! Stay in touch. I promise at some point I'll get back into the swing of things... Have a good long weekend too!

Well, thank you... I haven't been here as long though... And I think to qualify I might have to do more requests first. However I just don't have a lot of time these days. I am still getting trained on my new job. There is quite a lot to it... But that was nice of you to say so... See you around! Hopefully I can take a breather in a while...

I've been learning my new job: it's sort of administrative and support for sales... So I am sort of doing two things. I have to call the gal from Winnipeg a lot (she is my trainer). My bosses think I am doing well, but I sometimes wonder if I am doing enough. I need to do reports for the quality/sales and if someone new in sales has issues I have to try to solve problems by teaching them how to solve them... So I train too... Anyway, next week will be really busy because I have to do month-end reports which are three times as much as the usual weekly reporting. I do apologize that I've been neglecting you, but it may be well nigh a month or more before I am completely comfortable on my own... Most of my job is on the computer so I just don't feel like poking around on the computer when I get home! LOL But soon enough I will have more energy and will chat more... Tell me how you are doing these days? 8)
FirePhantom24 on March 25, 2007, 10:38:45 AM
I'm doing pretty good. I finally got out of an artist's block that lasted about a month, so I'm going to be putting stuff up like crazy in the next few days.
I'm finally on Spring Break for two weeks, so I'm going to have a lot more time on the computer.
Have fun with your job, and talk to me when you get the chance! ^^

Wow! I mean WOW! Finally some really constructive comments, thank you so much!^__^ I have different types of pencils, but not too many I'm afraid. And the reason I dont use what I have is probably because I'm scared of ruining the drawing since I'm not used to using them^^ But because of your kind words, I swear I will start using them^^
Thank you again, it really means a lot^^ I'll check out your gallery too very soon^^

Oh, you are very welcome... If you are very worried about trying out the darker pencils, why don't you post some of your questions in the Art Help Forum under the Art discussion section? If you do, let me know. Also Trinity Fire rocks with helping out people with their art. In my profile also have a link to my blog on the upper right under my "featured art" that has some helpful links and a tutorial on it... And don't forget to Google questions... Here are some helpful links (I hope): the first one is from my blog... don't be offended by the name, because I was thinking of it as Art for Dummies kind of thing, me being the dummy: http://r3b3l4c3s.blogspot.com/2007/01/hee-hee-fac-for-dimwits-like-me.html... The rest I googled -- Try this one and go down to the bottom of the web page to go to the next steps http://artsillustration.com/shadingsteps.htm... You were teaching, which indicates that your teacher a) trusts you, b) knows you have some ability and potential, and c) does he pick just anybody to do this job you're doing, or did he pick you because you are responsible and reliable and you know what you're doing? Don't sell yourself short... And it's supposed to be an honour if the pupil outdoes the teacher... It means you have outdone yourself as the teacher! LOL As a joke (if he's got a sense of humour) you could ask him how much teacher aides get paid... You could tell him you see a vein in his neck that looks like it's going to pop... Or tell him you want him to give you a good reference to a decent tennis teacher who actually spends time with tutoring someone who WANTS to learn how to play and needs pointers. (but only if he doesn't take himself too seriously!)

No, I suck. and he doesnt supervise. But hes awesome at tennis hes just to lazy. he would rather be up there playing with his best players than to bother with us. I do know how to play. but im not the best on the team. Im just teaching them how to play a match and how to switch sides and whatever.........

Well, does he at least supervise?? You must be pretty dang good, if he's got you teaching -- maybe you're better than he is at it... Or like you said: if he's old he'd probably pull a muscle or something so he's got a young un doing his work for him to preserve himself for retirement without having to be in permanent traction! LOL

*SHOUT* Hi there! Sorry it's been a while before I answered... I know I finished my main training out of town, but now I am still in training in my home-town. This was my first week: they hired me so quickly because they really needed someone to fill the position -- but it was so quick that I didn't have all my necessary passwords until FRIDAY for heaven's sake... It's amazing how much work you still can find to do when you can't so the work you're supposed to! lol I was sick on Tuesday, and some crazy stuff was going on Thursday... I think I'm almost settled now... Next week will be more of a normal workload, so I'm bracing myself. How YOU been?

I'm thinking it's my fault that I can't quite follow. I still find everything wanting me to continue reading on to find out more, but perhaps I need to read something that happened before... Or maybe I need to know more about Astro's background and same with these other nymphs... I'm just missing something key to the understanding of why all this is happening in the first place... I think I need to back up to some starting point.

I don’t give out complements freely, but very little moves me as I have been in the art field longer than I care to admit (so don’t ask). Don’t underestimate yourself, (for there are plenty of others who will try to do that)! But there are more people who appreciate the creative concepts you display… Thank you for sharing…

Hello FirePhantom; nice to hear from you again... I'm a little frazzled these days because I am waiting to hear from an interview if I got a job or not. But other than that, and having a bit of a stomach virus that seems to be going around, I'm fairing well, thanks. How are you?
To tell you the truth, I was enamored with horses at the time I drew that picture, so I bought a horse calander and sort of worked with (did NOT trace, of course) a photo of a horse (with some tweaking). Then I also was looking at wings of various photographs of birds.... But if you want to learn about wings I have some links on my blog: I am starting a collection of tutorial links... http://r3b3l4c3s.blogspot.com/2007/01/hee-hee-fac-for-dimwits-like-me.html

Well... First of all, if you have real problems, you can always talk about them. The best for you would be to talk to someone who is NOT on a computer. Our help is limited to what we can write on a screen, and we are not all psychologists or doctors or counsellors. You do appear remorseful, and sound like you aren't going to do it again. I would like to believe you, but you have to remember that it will take time for us to accept that you are being truthful with us, because our faith in you was shaken. This is a natural consequence that occurs when someone, anyone, is caught doing something deceitful. For now I will accept your apology.

one panel, no parody, no tv show, no popular comic book just make a original character. human character, male/female it doesnt matter.
in a urban environment(city, allyway, on a roof anything thats urban) Just make you own characters, original idea whatever pops in you head.
Manga style or you own style its all good. you also can do multiple characters if you want.

*blush* Thank you... Well, to be honest, I am working on more drawings... I have 2 on the go right now... One is another Star Wars poster, one is for the B&W pencil Dragon Contest... And Spleetoog wanted me to do a request for him.... But hasn't told me what he wants yet! LOL It took me weeks to do that one of Citrus because it was so large & I only have weekends to work on them... However these next pictures are going to be a lot smaller, so I hope to get them done faster.... I take my time on them otherwise they look rushed...

Well, I didn't spy anything about large heads or hands... However, if you like you can do a drawing of Michaelangelo's David statue. He made David's hands HUGE! But that was because of all the detail. Sometimes an artist makes something bigger because he pays special attention to it, or because he feels it's more important than the rest of the art... Yours doesn't seem to have any issues, so I am not sure why this person stated such a thing... Perhaps you could ask him if he's just trying to yank your chain because he knows you'll be bothered by it... Or perhaps he's thinking from the perspective that you are drawing realistically, when you are drawing in a different style. I wouldn't let it get to you...

Well, I notice you seem more comfortable with the B&W drawings, as they are in the majority in your gallery, but by no stretch of the imagination do you suck! You're way too tough on yourself. You might need some fine-tuning but from what I have seen you know how things are supposed to look. What type of medium do you prefer when colouring? I know a bit about markers, colouring pencils, conte, charcoal and a little about pastel crayons (oil based) as far as dry medium goes, so if you need pointers check out the Art Help Forum. On the other hand, I have seen your B&W drawings, and they are really talented, so I would be very happy if you just wanted to do a B&W drawing. Again, there is no rush... Take your time.

LOL If it's corny, I guess I like corny. I understand that most people don't really explain why they like something, they just instinctively know when they like something and when they don't. They don't always know how to explain *why* so easily. I suppose when you're an older one like me, with an art background, you find it easier.

Well... I will eventually get through everyone's entire gallery... I might not do it all at once, but sort of come back to them, like when you put down a good book and go back to the next chapter. I figure it's interesting to see the artist at the beginning and see the evolution to the present day, if that makes any sense (although it's a rather abbreviated history: if it were a true history, we'd have art on here from 3 years old up to present LOL)... As for the comments, I prefer to explain why I like something, not just that I like it. And I tend to blather! LOL

No no it makes perfect sense... I actually like doing that myself. It's fun to see how a person's style "artistic eye" has changed. *laughs* And in all honesty, I really like long comments that tell me what they like and why or how I could change something to improve it, or even just the impression it has on them... any time I receive a comment like that it helps me to improve as an artist. So blather all you wish. ^ ^

Cool! I'd love to be at a WLiiA show... And it would be totally fab to meet someone from the show - the regulars, anyway! And I agree, this is a great place for artists who want to introduce their art: it's not as threatening as putting it on display in a public place and actually watch people's expressions or hear their comments... In university one has to show one's own exhibit and also have to explain why they did it, the reason behind it, etc-- so FAC is a very good opportunity to get used to critiques and how to give them... Although more about actually drawing than the philosophy behind it, but a good start nonetheless. See you in the Forums!

Well, it wasn't all fun... Immigration and customs are a giant pain the hind quarters and we learned a lot about stuff that we didn't even know we would need to know... But when you live that far away from your friends and family you can get homesick... And give yourself time, you will find plenty of places to see and things to do... I wish I could go to lots of places but time and jobs and unplanned emergencies (AKA Life) do hold one back sometimes. Anyway, I like to chat on and on about visiting Canada, especially our province and city (we have a rivalry with Saskatoon! LOL). I did a whole research thing for Alberta because we wanted to treat David's mom from Florida when she came to visit last summer... Plus I type 50-60 words a min, so no trouble. I better shutup again, I'm writing another novel! LOL PM me some time if you want to chat some more... 8)

OH, I was confuzzled for a second. I didn't do the research for a book, just for a trip. LOL -- other than some poetry in a teen art/prose/poetry magazine years ago, and a journal publication about publishing newspapers in classrooms/schools, and a few cartoons, I haven't done anything else. I just meant this story I am working on (see my tab for Stories on my gallery). If it turns into a novel, I don't know if anyone but me would publish it.... But I have 6 chapters so far under the main title: "ARIA: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF A FORMER SPACE PIRATE" which you can find at this link http://www.fanart-central.net/story-42116.html

She's well-drawn! Nice work... There aren't too many things I could say to help out.. I might point out is her right foot (our right, not hers) is either angled a bit too far out, or needs to have bigger toes... and because her left leg (our left not hers) is straight her hip on that side might need to be tilted higher up on that side and because her other leg is stretched out, then that hip would be angled down slightly. And maybe the line up to her shoulder needs to go further up... Everything else looks top-notch, though... I like how you did the skirt and how the hair is starting to turn out. The torso is well-drawn, and the legs seem the right thickness; and nice face, too, I might add! This might assist: http://bp3.blogger.com/_yslQHqQ0lFg/Rb4C6Pj_qLI/AAAAAAAAAFA/tKA54339yDI/s1600-h/Hips.JPG

Ah! Yes, they probably mean whatever paintshop-type program you use, but they don't really give room except under description to say what you use specifically. LOL I sometimes overwork drawings too... There have been many times where I boogered up a face or hands from too much erasing, and I had to start over... *crinkles up over-done drawing in a ball and throws it to Jupiter* BAH! I don't think it's laziness, I think it's frustration! LOL

Well... I don't have many colour preferences, because I like too many colours... But I'll say blue, if you need something... If you already have a blue background though, I suppose I would go for a green or orange dragon... I'm easy to please though, so if none of those ideas go well, why don't you use YOUR favourite colour?

I think it's a terrific drawing! You draw awesome wolves! I used to draw wolves (real-life) because they have such intelligent eyes... Gives me the shivers. Also a David Eddings fan - there are a lot of references to wolves and owls (and that seems to be the preferred form to shift into for certain characters in the books)... *smashes picture of Peppe Le Pew over her head* I SHOULDA KNOWN IT WAS BOUNCING AROUND LIKE THE SKUNK! *blush*

That's okay... Take your time! If you like, may I suggest next time if you want to experiment with colouring techniques, I have found a sneaky way to avoid mistakes on a good copy of my pencil drawings... What I do is photocopy or scan the black and white pencil drawing a few times and then colour or shade in with different pencils/markers/paints. Then which ever one I want to use I pick - and either apply it to the original drawing, or if it's good quality I can use the coloured photocopy for the final scan... Maybe you could try, too!

Just a general comment on your gallery: I love the fluidity that I see in your pictures - it's rare to see a picture that can convey motion (without motion lines) with a still subject. You also have a very good handle on your media of choice. You know how to use color, and how colors interact with each other to make other come forward or recede.
(Haha - I just noticed that I'm on your favorite artist list. =^_^= Thanks!)
Bottom line is: Great gallery!

Well, thank you very much, I appreciate the compliments and helpful critique you did for me on my CITRUS 'toon. Oh and I forgot to tell you, as you did ask me, about those markers I use... I think they might be similar to the markers you use. There is a little store in my city, but there is a bigger store in another province: here is the link to their website and it also has a good picture of what they are like. And of course you can probably order/get them elsewhere, but I love this store here in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada that has them.

I understood what you meant: I have ordered things from the US before and sometimes you get a surprise charge for going through customs or some other surprise... We had one package that they tore apart and then taped back up and it was delayed for a while... It was a stormtrooper outfit! LOL I think our dollar is about the same right now, but I am sure we have some of those markers already distributed in various art stores, I just never look for them. I think they have 2 nibs, whereas the ones I use have a fine nib that fits over a medium sized nib on one end and then a very thick nib on the opposite end... I really like my 3-in-1s...

LOL I do try to actually explain why I like a picture.... Sure your stuff is "cool!" But I try not to use the same adjective over and over on all the different galleries, there are so many other words capable of describing skillful and talented, well-composed drawings. Thanks for visiting my gallery, too, and the nice compliment. I plan to visit you again soon!

thanx so much for your wonderful comment! I have to say I feel really honored that someone as skilled as you would comment on my humble gallery (I'm more of a writer than an artist ^ ^). Yeah, my little sister tried to teach me how to use photoshop recently but I still didn't get it, so I think I'm going to try experimenting on my own now. I don't color well. That's why most of my stuff is just line art.

Thank you for the compliments! I am blushing at being "honoured!" You don't necessarily have to colour with photoshop... I've seen some very nice pictures in folks' galleries done with shading in black and white, or with pastels, markers, pencil crayons/colouring pencils or inks or paints even... Does your art teacher at school have any of these?
Liedetector16 on January 22, 2007, 11:18:14 AM
Color in general I'm very VERY bad at. Shading i can do on occasion. Usually if I really want something colored I'll have someone do it for me. I just prefer black and white, and for better quality works I'll ink if I'm feeling brave. Me and the pencil, though - yeah, we're best friends. ^ ^ I'm kinda hesitant about asking my art teacher for extra supplies. She thinks I'm really good - at least compared to others in the class - and she's really disapointed that I don't want to be an artist. (I don't think she gets on the internet very often and sees all the other art out there, like yours for instance). Plus I'm not taking her art class next year. It's too much work for someone who isn't serious about art. If I was into it enough, I might ask, but I'd rather sit down and right a draft for a 20-page chapter of a book, if you get what I mean.

LOL I do love to write too! Well, instead of asking your art teacher, perhaps you could join either an artist guild or a writer's guild: either way, whichever supplies you start using, you would (hopefully) pay a reasonable yearly fee and get a newsletter plus some sort of membership card that would get you a percentage off on supplies. Or of course, if you are a student, there should be some areas where you live that give student discounts. That's what it's like around here anyway: 10 percent off stuff really helps!
Liedetector16 on January 22, 2007, 11:37:45 AM
heh, I imagine. I don't know. I don't think I'd be commited enough to anything like that. I'm trying to keep my grades up so I get get some good scholarships to college - a free ride would be nice - and I have to get a job soon. It'd be nice if I had more time set aside, but I've got other priorities: chuch, school, time with my family and friends, etc. I take it you're in some sort of guild...?

I would have ended up being a teacher if A) I wasn't ill for a few years; B) If I had moved to a smaller city or town for a couple of years to build up tenure, C) If I hadn't moved to another country for a while (but that's where I married my husband! Heh!), D) If I hadn't become so good at substitute teaching some school board might have hired me full time in a regular classroom, with kids who I would get to know and they would get to know me, and I wouldn't be some stranger coming for a visit. Most kids are good, but you get one or two once in a while who try to play you, and that's a bit stressful. I still teach, but it's training people...

LOL Sorry I gave you my life's story! Let's see: from Saskatchewan, Canada to Florida, USA... That's quite a leap, really... We went from having only 6 hours of daylight in the winter to almost 8 and no snow... That was weird during Christmas, for me... From pine trees and elms to giant firs and palm trees... From ketchup flavoured chips to... well, whatever they had down there... I missed ketchup flavoured chips! Then we moved back to Saskatchewan, Canada where we live now. Everyone kept teasing me because I said "eh" a lot! LOL I never knew how much I said it, eh, until I moved to the US, eh! LOL

Woah, that is absolutely fabulous. The blue guy (Crovax) looks fine to me, he always enjoys a good challenge! LOL
It looks terrific. My only request is perhaps something with Aria's expression: She has brown eyes slightly lighter than her dark brown hair, by the way. If you want to make her look slightly impish like winking, or slightly evil with eyebrows down but slight grin on her face or something like that while she enjoys blasting Krayt Dragons (looks like we came upon an entire nest of baby dragons! LOL)... But I would be totally fine if you left it the way you have it, too!
THANK YOU!

Here you are 7th, I sort of copied and pasted the three shots together as one, so this might make it easier for you. If you like I can erase your pic off my Blog for you, but for this to save properly you would have to copy and save it to your computer first and then download it onto your FAC gallery as Download from My Computer. Let me know if you want me to take this off. If you like you can post several pieces of this picture when you are finished colouring it in (the more the better, as this one was slightly off: if you could attempt to line up the edges with the scanner before saving, then that would help, and if you could get at least three from each side for a total of 12 shots. If you can't line up the picture very well to get a center shot, try several shots of the center so that I have something to work with. You can see where there are some lines doubling over others, here and there on this piece I pasted together, but I tried to erase them for the most part.

Why what happened there? Do you mean the critique thingee? Don't let that get you down, it's supposed to be supportive... It helps you develop a thick skin, and how to improve yourself, and possibly how to defend your art if need be in the future... At least, in my experience, they explain how to improve. I value people's constructive criticism now, but I used to be upset about it because it felt so personal to me... However, if someone just turns into a punk and cuts it to shreds for no reason, it implies that whoever made the baseless attack is thoughtless and gets off on hurting other's feelings: I'm not going to let them win. As my husband says "Opinions are like @$$holes: everyone has one and they all stink!" Pardon my language if that was offensive. LOL Hope this cheers you up!

You are welcome... Let's see... If you want to try out any of the scenes in my posters in your style that would be cool, like for instance, in the one with the blue guy punching the dragon in the eye on Tattooine(or choose a different scene from any of the pictures in my galleries and any of the characters).
I would really like to see one of my characters done in your own style... 8) My fave character, of course, is Aria, the one with the long braid...

Thanks for commenting!!! Ya, it does have that kinda of have Fantasia look to it. I use to watch that movie a lot when I was younger, still like it just don't have much time anymore. Maybe I should make time to watch it again. OH, yeah I almost forgot I love the colors in your 4th poster. You color things so beautiful. :)

Ah, well... To each their own... I used to hate to colour stuff in too. I always did a million drawings that were simple Black and White, and whenever I tried to colour things in, I seemed to ruin them... I can't remember when I started using colour, but it was either with pencil crayons/colouring pencils or markers... I may have gone to a "cartooning" class or something - I think it was before high school. We were introduced to different types of things from paper to charcoal to pastels to paints, so I might've gotten some interest/ability from that experience.
