Urban Legends
Setting: Several buildings that used to be part of a military base years ago. Now they are an airport, university and hotel respectively. The university operates primarily during the day, the airport most often has cargo flights in the late evening and early night, and commercial flights in the late night and early morning. There's a bar in front of the airport and another smaller bar inside the airport, the hotel also has a bar. Some employees have split shifts, meaning a few hours of work, time off, then the rest of the shift and they sometimes nap during that time.
Conspiracy Theories
Fact: The airport used to be a military base.
Rumor: There are many underground levels that are still operating with the military.
Opinion: The possibility of the existence of a basement is not too unrealistic, but I've never seen any soldiers disappearing into the floor.
Fact: The floor of the waiting room and counter area is slightly uneven.
Rumor: There are nuclear experiments going on underground which raised or lowered the floor slightly in some areas.
Opinion: They did a sloppy job when they added the floor tiles when they turned the base into an airport.
Fact: Noises can produce echoes.
Rumor: Odd noises can be heard because of the secret military business going on in the basement.
Opinion: The inner walls to divide the hangar into offices and areas were added when the building was turned commercial. Those walls are thin and hastily built, thus nowhere near as strong as the walls belonging to the original high ceiling structure. Echoes have plenty of good opportunities to travel in the airport.
Fact: The above listed rumors are things that people also say about the nearby university.
Rumor: That proves that it's all true.
Opinion: That proves that both students and travelers love urban legends.
Hauntings
Fact: The building that is now a hotel used to be a military hospital.
Rumor: There are ghosts in there. The peculiar thing about this rumor is that the ones claiming to see the ghosts are tourists who are apparently not even familiar with the local legends and not in regular contact with this area.
Opinion: Maybe the hotel employees are scaring the tourists for fun.
Fact: The local control tower is under renovations and the tower from a different airport is actually controlling air traffic.
Rumor: A man hung himself in the tower and his shadow can be seen from the window.
Opinion: The tower is being renovated, of course there's random stuff laying around and casting weird shadows in the windows.
Fact: The runway is big, the cars are old.
Rumor: There is a spot in the runway, no one knows exactly where, that if you drive over it the car shuts down and won't start again for a while. It is said someone died in that very spot.
Opinion: See fact.
Fact: There is an unused door at the end of the office hallway.
Rumor: Sometimes a ghost walks down the hall and fades into the closed door. The door cannot be seen from the other side of the structure as it is a portal to the spirit world.
Opinion: The door is indeed locked and not to be used because it leads to the cargo area and you need to be cleared by security before going to the cargo area. I've been there but have not seen the door from the other side, albeit my sense of direction is bad or maybe it was covered by something. I attribute this to the imagination of sleepy people.
Fact: Some airplanes remain parked overnight.
Rumor: Ghosts like to walk around the airplanes.
Opinion: This story was also based on the "experience" of a sleepy employee, so yeah.
Fact: On average there's about one gun fight per year and one drunken verbal fight per month.
Rumor: It's a curse.
Opinion: It's the alcohol.
