I got most of this stuff from parkour web sits. Only the stuff I thought stayed true to the origin and mind set of the discipline of parkour!
Le Parkour (also known as Parkour, PK) was invented in 1988 in the Parisian suburb of Lisses by a group of teenagers including the legends David Belle and Sebastien Foucan, who formed a clan called the "Yamakasi", or new (modern) samurai. It includes such techniques as the tic-tac (wall step/run); Kong (a form of vault); and precision (two-foot to two-foot jump) among myriad others. Most watching traceurs pk would describe their movements as series of acrobatic techniques fluidly integrated into a continuous run from A to B, past, over, under and through any obstacles in their path.
The co-founder Sebastien Foucan said “The traits you display in life are the same traits you find in parkour. The doubts and fears you encounter in everyday life are the same you display in the discipline of parkour. The ones in life can be more difficult to combat. Free running is a way to fight ones fears and demons and then one can reapply this to life.”
Sebastien believes in the concepts of:
No violence
No violence, no destruction! Be focused on Passion and Creativity
No competition
Do not seek a prize, don’t compete against others! Competition is an illusion, where only the winners are remembered and losers forgotten you can learn from it, but it’s not The Way. In the Free-running philosophy there is no Loser. The journey is more important than the goal.
No group
Just be one community, we can share with others, some people have more experience but we are all different and you need to find your own path.
No chief
No Leader, follow your way!
People can inspire you and you should respect them,
but you have to follow your way!
Parkour is similar to “Tai Chi” it’s a series of movements meant to keep you fit, healthy, and calm. But it’s a little more extreme for a younger generation to get involved in. no matter what age you are parkour is for a healthy life mentally and physically. Also it’s not about looking cool or showing off parkour is about having fun and building strength. Trying to see what you have in your self and expanding upon your abilities no matter what it is you do. You could be late for school, rushing to the bus, late for a meeting or saving someone’s life and parkour could help you do it faster
Parkour is the ability to control your body and mind as one being, so that you can find a path quickly, and move your body in a way that the path can be followed into the next path you're given. If you're running towards an obstacle and start to slow down in order to maneuver around it, most likely you need to practice more.
This is why I love parkour you break the rules of the human body to reach out and do something big. It’s something that you have and no one else can obtain. I think it is sad to see people give up or give in. parkour has taught me to get past my self and my fear. Now I have freed my mind and opened it to infinite possibilities.
Parkour is similar to “Tai Chi” it a series of movements mean to keep you fit,
Warning; Parkour can be dangerous with out the right supervision special precautions should be taken. When doing free running consider your own ability first and be mindful of you surroundings. If not taken in to consideration it could lead to serious injury and in extreme conditions even death.
