Sorry to everybody who follows me on Fan Art Central for not updating my blog here very often, but I have been busy with creating fan fiction and other related works(many of which i'll be posting on here in the future).
Anyway, on to the title of this blog post(and the purpose of this post); a few years ago, when I started getting into writing Scooby Doo Fan Fiction(as I am a big fan of the Great Dane and his friends adventures) one of the first projects I undertook was rewriting the 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo series as a fan fiction series, but without the character of Scrappy Doo and with the characters Velma and Fred, as they were not in the original series while Scrappy was.
During the time I wrote those stories, I noticed a few interesting things about the series which I decided to use in the future in updating the fan fics after a while. Most notably of which is an observation I came up with while working on developing Fred's character a little in the series; basically, I decided since he was a strong leader of Mystery Inc. and since he had an obsession with aliens and such in his younger years(as seen in A Pup Named Scooby Doo) that he would undergo some warlock and magic training under Vincent Van Ghoul(voiced by the incomparable and actually very funny Vincent Price, for those who have never seen the series before).
Oddly enough, as I was looking up the series episode guide and writing the series, I noticed that the original series airing order on ABC TV(which is the order I wrote the stories in) has three episodes that make up a perfect story arc for Fred's warlock training, which surprised me a bit as it was an interesting coincidence that the series would turn out that way.
In terms of the 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo airing order(in its original run and in most of its reruns since that point), the episode A Spooky Little Ghoul Like You is aired first. It is the 7th episode of the series and it involved Nicara, an evil enchantress trying to kiss Vincent Van Ghoul and drain his powers; in my version however, Fred asks Vincent what it's like to be a warlock, which leads to Fred want to go through warlock training, which Vincent is OK with and so on.
The next episode that comes up is the 8th in the series, When You Witch Upon A Star; it involved three bumbling witches and an evil mist who turns out to be an evil witch named Marcella. In my fan fic version of the episode, I was thinking Fred would begin training to be a warlock, but that training would be interrupted by Mystery Inc. having to track down the three aforementioned witches.
The third episode of this story arc(although not intended to be one) is It's A Wonderful Scoob, the 9th episode of the series. In that episode, Scooby Doo retires from ghost chasing but is coaxed back into that line of work by Vincent Van Ghoul who shows him the future if the ghost the gang were tracking(Time Slime) were to prevail and release all the spirits from the Chest of Demons.
In this episode, Vincent shows Scooby Doo the gang's respective futures, should he stay retired. I was thinking in this episode that Fred would be powerful enough as a warlock to pick up where Scooby left off, not to mention if Vincent Van Ghoul were to be captured or killed, Fred could fight the evil forces of the Chest of Demons in order to help get the world back to semi normalcy.
Kind of interesting when you think about it, especially when I thought about it. The original 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo had these episodes run in 3 consecutive weeks, but they all had really nothing to do with one another.
It's almost as if the producers figured someone would think the way I do and that this would make a good story arc someday... even in a fan fiction. Well, that's it for now as later today I will get back to working on fan fiction; thanks to everyone for reading this, and I'll hopefully post again soon.
