Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Re-mastered
On January 25, 2015 Amazon.com listed a re-mastered version for release entitled Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy Re-mastered. It was released on January 29, 2015 for Windows, Linux, OS X and iOS, the re-master features higher texture resolution, controller support on the Windows, OS X and Linux and is based on the uncensored version of the game.

Obvious some people thought that this was going to get next gen console graphics and be a compete remake... and thankfully, that wasn't the case at all. Remakes usually seem more like Reboots where they change everything that made the game unique or even recognizable. Like changing the game play and storyline in order for it to become an action game where you do nothing but shoot, duck and cover (Mass Effect, Gears of War, Call of Duty, Halo), because those kinds of games make the most money. Also, a lot of games these days get released before being tested to see if they have any bugs or glitches and gamers end up having to download patches after patches to fix them.

Too many people these days think that an older game needs the latest graphics... but that's really just "window dressing", "icing on the cake", so many people are fooled by them and somehow think that if the graphics are topnotch, then so is the entire game. Wait long enough and the Xbox One and PS4 graphics will age and be outdated before a new console comes out.

One good example on how an older game can still be good without it needing the best graphics and mechanics is Another World for the PC, Sage and SNES. There was a re-mastered re-release, but all they did was clean it up a bit, give it a better resolution and sound without changing everything what made the game great. They were not trying to appeal to a younger audience.

I would hate to see a remake of Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy the way they remade Flashback.

The way they make video games these days have very much changed since Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy and not for the better. The type graphics I see today are just not that impressive, characters hardly show any expressions on their face. Changing the visuals would mean getting new voice actors for the scenes, they can't reuse the same audio, and who knows if they would get the original people. Today they get nothing but famous actors to voice characters just so the game gets attention, they want star power to sell the game. That's all I ever hear from their fans, "I just bought the game because [blank] was in it, the game was meh!"

They even change the character just so it matches the voice actor, but these so-called actors all sound so bored and lifeless. The Silent Hill series seemed as if it was getting desperate and got actor Norman Reedus to increase sales for the next game, his Walking Dead fame is what they were counting on, but it got canceled. It's relying on star power to the sell the game and not the game itself.

David Gasman (Lucas) and Barbara Scaff (Carla) are still better than what I hear today. Both David and Barbara voiced other characters in Fahrenheit but they changed their voice enough to sound different. Look at all the voice actors in Elder Scrolls: Skyrim, they reused all of them, but they don't change the tone or accent in their voice at all, they all sound the same...

These kinds of changes are done by talentless hack writers and lazy developers just to appeal to a younger generation of gamers who may not have played the game or have even heard of it and it just leaves those who loved the original out in the cold.

I'm not saying that there couldn't be a good remake of it, but the way that video games are made these days, it just doesn't seem likely. Either a new development team comes in and destroys it, which is usually the case, or David Cage (creator of the game) has changed since 2005 and thinks that the game needs to be more mainstream... although David Cage himself said that there will be no sequel, there was a poster, Fahrenheit 2 in 2010 or 11, but David himself said that it was fake.

What needed to be Rewritten
One thing that should have changed or have been added to the plot, would be more scenes between Lucas and Carla. There time spend together happens off screen between levels The Pact and Where Is Jade (the whole month of February), because when they do get together, it comes across as very sudden.

I would get rid of the option to get back with Tiffany, just because he played the guitar, a reminder of old times, doesn't make for a good excuse to have sex and get back together.

The whole AI subplot should be removed as well, it just comes out of nowhere, it ruined the atmosphere and made the story inconsistent. It was fine as a detective story and a mystic thriller, the Sci-Fi part was unnecessary. Combining genres requires a more careful approach.

Another thing to change is when Lucas fights the 3 police men and the Oracle, I know a lot of people say that's where the game becomes the Matrix and Lucas becomes an anime superhero Ninja, and I don't blame them. So replace the first fight scene with the chase that happens in the street and when he jumps on the helicopter. Another chase scene between Lucas and the helicopters, it starts as soon as he gets to the roof and have it go on a bit longer. Save the fight with the Oracle until the end of the game.
