I've been doing a lot of cartoony drawings as of late so i thought I'd change it up this time around. I also wanted to take a break from painting digitally so i bought a new set of watercolors. I chose to do a quick portrait of Taylor Swift just because I keep hearing her latest song. Likeness may not be there but it was still good practice.

Wow I don't know what to say. Thanks for the compliment. You know what though, I'm actually still trying to get a hang of it myself. I'm usually afraid that I'll put down something too dark that I can't lighten it anymore thus ruining the piece right from the start. I tend to just start with a REALLY watered down color and just build up value gradually until I match what I want. Its a long process which I think I can cut down as I improve. I'll give you more tips as I do more Watercolor studies. As for now all i can say is, simplify the shadow shapes, match the values and ALWAYS work from light to dark when doing Watercolor.
Hope that helps but i'm sure I just told you stuff you already know haha.

actually that helped a great deal, I am only a beginner at watercolor myself. The only water color I did was a background for some faces that I drew in colored pencil. So i just experimented with water colors there. My teacher tried to show me how to control the strokes but it seemed the water colors just seeped into the paper and spread wherever they wanted so I got frustrated and never did watercolor again lol. Now I have a whole summer and I am bored so I am thinking about trying again.
