So, it's been a long time since I was a "fan" of the Eragon stuff per se. I recognize it was a mess: it was a rambling daydream written by a teenage kid who wanted to be George Lucas and Tolkien and McCaffrey and who badly needed a new editor. But it had the power as well as the weaknesses of a daydream. There were bits of it that sparked something in me, that made me think "that's beautiful, I want that," or that were viscerally ugly and really made me properly hate the villains. And it was also the basis for a really darn fun online text RP I was in some years ago. So part of me still likes it, and thanks Chris Paolini for the good times his book gave me.
