"It's clear as tattoos on your eyes:
a story not heard in the bright palace light
can only be told as a secret of night.
The girl in the garden and I"
-The Girl in the Garden, SJ Tucker
Lyrics based on "In the Night Garden," Part 1 of The Orphan's Tales series by Cathryn M. Valente.

I got the whole book stuck in my head again just by having the lyrics dancing around, and it was a very weird and wonderful sort of a book! The only way I could think to describe it to my sister was "a matrioshka doll of interlocked fairytales." There's so much going on, and so much visual description, I could happily spend two years just drawing stuff based on that volume. Not that there's leisure for that. <.< Regardless, playing with some word-art of bits of the stories wrapped around a line of its tribute-song seemed worthwhile. ^_^

FirielThanks. :)
The authors of the inspiration are creative people, so it makes sense that they would inspire creativity in turn. ^_^

jiraI like it, it’s commercial in nature and “Google” isn’t the first to come up with such interpretations… Your inspiration took you there, well done!

FirielThanks. ^_^
And while that wasn't QUITE my inspiration ;), I can see that it's a similar kind of word-art, working the pictures in and around the letters in a strip like this. Hm... I wonder what Google doodles celebrating books would look like?

FirielShe was the original author of the Howl story/book, yes, but I hadn't heard she was involved in Spirited Away. 0.o She did a lot of... Subversions of fantasy tropes? Can I say it that way? Fantasy books which were self-aware in a major way, although she was less sarcastic about it than Terry Pratchett. I've read a bit of her stuff, including the original Howl, and would love to read more. :)
