How did you create the effect of flaming ?
I ask, because I've been trying to depict such since I started to draw, though my attempts never looked fully convincing at all. Some examples are below:
- http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/TeeJay87/840055/Fiendish-Marxism-in-Hell-2013 heating the cauldron
- http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures/user/TeeJay87/839989/Feline-Sorcery-with-Mona-2013 - flames on sword's blade and palm preparing to cast magic spell.

OK. I'm trying to figure out how to verbalize, because I don't think I've said it in words before.
Looking at your samples, I think that one of the main things I'm doing different is that I have more colors. You seem to basically be working with red and yellow right now. I'm using white for the brightest parts in the center of my flame, then going into darker colors as I work outward - yellow, yellow-orange, orange, red - which kind of gives it a chance to change gradually, instead of having as clear-cut outlines. And I think I may be changing up the shapes more, too. Making some of the flames a lot fatter or thinner than others, twisting them so it's like they're reaching for something. Letting some of them intersect and putting shading between them like they're flowing, like you might do with trickles of water, instead of having all separate spikes like blades of grass.
Not used to explaining in words what I'm doing, so I hope I'm not over or under explaining. Hopefully I am being at least a little helpful. :)
