While I was working on my Mako Mori (Pacific Rim) tribute, a friend asked me whether it was something related to Oz because of the red shoe in the foreground. My brother joked that if it WAS Oz, Dorothy would be riding in a giant Tin Woodman and punching a giant Wicked Witch of the West. We rapidly decided it might be amusing to figure out how that particular weird crossover would even work - and next thing I knew, I was sketching an outline. :)
Dorothy and Ozma are drift partners and the Tin Woodman is their jaeger.
Prof. Wogglebug and Jack Pumpkinhead are the dorky science team.
Witches are kaiju (going for closer to a bookish look, although I imagine kaiju-witches would actually be more troll-like in appearance); the faeries, rebel Lurline's abandoned kin, the aliens who sent the invasion...
Most of the visual elements are stylistically based more on the Oz illustrations (John R. Neill version predominant), the 1939 Wizard of Oz movie, or some combination of both rather than on the Pacific Rim aesthetic, so I think it files more neatly under the Classical Literature for Oz than under Other Movies for PacRim.
