My six-year-old brother, Kevin, really likes robots. He draws Zim as a robot all the time. Creepy, huh? Well, my mom says I have to be extra nice to him before I can go back to Hot Topic and buy Squee comics, so I decided . . . "Why not be nice to him by doing something I enjoy, so we both win?" That way, you see, I won't have to play "Bionicles" with him.
When I asked him what he wanted a picture of, he automatically answered "A robot!!" So I countered randomly, "Why not Johnny as a robot?" just out of the blue for no reason. And so he agreed, and it wasn't until I actually started drawing it did I realize what a frackin' mess I had gotten myself into.
But I continued on: finishing the outline, inking the picture, scanning it, coloring it on MS Paint and Open Canvas, and adding the cheep sparks effect with The Gimp . . . all while knowing it probably wouldn't go over with people on DA. Truth be told, it didn't even go over well with me. At one point, my hand was shaking as I was trying to draw.
However, I decided to turn it into something else. Yes, I had to keep my promise about the Johnny/robot, but I never said I couldn't twist that a little. So instead of truly drawing him as a real robot (which I really couldn't find the strength to do), I did a half-and-half . . . the "robot half" being nothing but a figment of imagination - a metaphor, really, in reference to the theme in Issue Seven: "In Control Of A Broken Machine".
My brother isn't smart enough to figure out the robot isn't real. He's totally excited about what I drew him. But that's the good thing: I drew him a robot . . . without really drawing Johnny as a robot. Now everybody in my family is happy. I hope you understand . . .

Anyway, so here's the picture that was never supposed to happen - no thanks to my little brother and my big mouth. No, I don't like the concept, either, so I don't blame you if you don't.
With you now knowing the sick story behind this horribly strange picture . . . I ask of you all one thing: "Please, please don't flame me."
"Nifty background, eh? I learned that trick in art class in sixth grade." ~1:30 AM this morning
