The image dimensions can depend on how you scan it. If you scan it at a low DPI then the image will be really small, but if you scan it at a high DPI the image will be really big (and also have a large file-size).
I'm not sure what type of scanner you have or what it can do or even if you can resize images with one, so you'll have to look in the help menu or just play with it until you can figure out how to do it ^_^
What I do is scan pics at 400DPI and then resize them later in an art program to 600 pixels wide or less as a rule-of-thumb. Once again, since I don't know what program you have --if you even have one for that matter-- the help menu can explain better than I can.

The "attitude" looks good, but it's so tiny it's hard to make out details..
Maybe next time bigger? You can adjust the compression settings on Jpegs so they are large in their dimensions but still are small in terms of file size :)
Oh, in regards to your comment on my pic of Akemi (I responded there, but I will say something here cos I dunno if you'll check back ): I did get some influence from the CG-ing in Viewtiful Joe and some from the GTA games. ^_^
