Why do I worry myself so? I feared that I wouldn't be able to draw water, but really, what was I concerning myself about?

Anyway. This is for Rebus, who also did well in the Negative Contest I hosted last fall (and as you can see, I used my inverted technique to make this drawing as well). Rebus requested a Kraken -- that mythical sea monster said to sleep on the ocean floor until the end of days? Yeah, that one. That's a pretty one-dimensional description to such a creature, I thought, there has to be more to its existence than a nearly eternal nap. What does it look like, what does it do, what does it eat?

Monsters called krakens are typically drawn with a lot of tentacles. But rather than going for the "squid" or "octopi" style of tentacles, I went for something different, perhaps more like a sea dragon type appearance.

And, well, that little fishing trawler floating across the ocean you see? She never made it back to port. Official reports blame an ocean squall and deep swells capsized her, but the few survivors of the disaster had a much different, more horrifying tale to tell.

Medium: Inverted colored & ebony pencil
Time: About three hours
Size: 9x12", 75px/in at full-view

Those interested in seeing how the inversion technique works can check out the WIP scans in my deviantART gallery, here.

BucketWow. That is really cool. I like the size comparison between the boat and the Kraken.

maerchen_boySome crazy old sailors back in the 1800s and earlier talked about mermaids and such. They said the Kraken was like a giant squid, but who cares!! your picture is cooler than seafood!!

buzzuathis is amazing, just looking at it makes me shiver, the water is awesome and the colors are great but what i like most about this picture is the ominous sense of power you can feel just by looking at it. once again great pic, all of your work is great.

OcelotWow. This is so beautiful in a bone-chilling sort of way. The light on the water... the boat drifting so unsuspectingly... Wow. Favorites.

Queen_Asheer5600The image, seems a little TO dark for me to make out much of anything. From what I can see I like the image (I need to load up some of my inverts later on although they are HORRIBLE) I really like the effect you got with the water on this, and the creature (whatever it may be) seems to blend in nicely although since the image is a really dark image.

RebusThanks Strata - I love it. It's ominous, it's elegant... and that's an unusual and effective perspective.

Thankyou. This was the first request anyone's done for me, and it's awesome.
