Do you use a paintbrush when you go over your watercolor pencil markings? Do you have to use a special paper which doesn't buckle when it gets wet?
..If I knew a little about the pencils, I'd probably be more adventuresome.
As for Prisma Colors, they are like normal colored pencils but oil based, giving them a richer, more bendable color.

I believe I have a set of Derwent water color pencils myself. I always used them like ordinary colored pencils. I'll have to try them via the your method.
Derwent makes good quality pencils, I swear by their graphic brand.
Speaking of paper, do you happen to know of any companies which make low texture paper for pencils? A good quality white sulfite would be nice.
