Ok people I've actually gone to the source (VIZ) and they explained to me that it's just a HUGE @$$ BOA! No, not a snake.It's actually one of those huge feathery scarves... they come in fur too.
In the Fudal Era, wearing an animal pelt (like Sesshomaru) was a sign of wealth and nobility (or something like that).
So Sesshomaru is just walking around with a big flaiming gay boa on. No big deal, right? ^_^
