It's a Barkas B1000 van that was made in the German Democratic Republic from 1961 to 1991. The van was popular in Eastern Europe, especially in the GDR and Hungary.

Hope you like it!

alitta2Do you mean the black spot under the van? If yes, it's only the shadow of that.

burntshrubThis is pretty cool, kinda reminds me of a King of the Hill style. Contrary to what WH2007 said, the perspective is not correct, but its in the ball park and not too far off.

Great job! Very unique for this site.

alitta2Thanks! Well, I tried to draw a typical Hungarian countryside for the background. I know that the hills could be better, but maybe next time I'll draw them correctly.

GeeAwesome! I always loved its design and you made a pretty impressive job once again, however, the last side window is in a strange angle and the wheels could be a bit thicker too, but the other parts, especially the front is perfect.
(I have a whole Barkas emblem at home);D +favs

alitta2Thanks for the comment and favs! I knew you'll recognize it, because it was popular only at us (and in GDR of course). I have seen only four kind of emblems (along with the "Trabant S") till this time but I don't know if there are more or not.

Anyway, I'm planning to draw a "night version" of the pic with a different background and then I'll correct the mistakes.

WH2007That's really good! The picture is very detailed and perspective is correct. I really like the front and the wheels. Good job! *favs*

BTW, Those cars weren't very popular in my country (probably because we had a lot of our own, better models)I've seen them only in Hungary and I really like their design. Do you know if the engine was two or four stroke?

alitta2 on April 12, 2008, 1:00:29 AM

alitta2 on
alitta2Thanks for the comment and favs! Its engine was two stroke like the other cars made in GDR, but it had three cylindres unlike Trabant or Wartburg what has only two. It had three types of engines: AWE 311 (966 ccm), AWE 312 016 (nearly 1000ccm) and 353-1 (the same was in Wartburg 353 1000ccm). Depending of the engine, the van could produce only 42HP.

WH2007Thanks for the information! I've heard the van and I wondered if the engine is 2 stroke. It's probably the reason that these cars werent popular in my country - our vans had more powerful Warszawa engines (which were American Ford design.)
