Hey! Thanks for the overwhelming comments! O_o Well, as i said, i never used GIMP before, but i'm pretty sure it works the same as PaintShop Pro ( photoshop program im working with )
There isnt a way to make your drawings in there, unless you have a graphic tablet which you can use to draw on the pc, but those things are very expansive... This is the method i use...
# Draw something... *duh*
# Second, i trace the lines with a rollerball ink pen
# I scan it as a black/white image ( 2-bit image )
# I open it up in photoshop, and degrease the colours again in 2-bit black and white, and then save it as .BMP
( The reason why i degrease the colours again is because the standard image is saved as a .jpeg. It gives those weird blocks and makes colouring hard... If its saved as a .BMP, the colouring is much easier )
# I then open the image in photoshop and edit where its nessecary and then save it again...
# Then increase the colours to 16 million colours, and save it as .BMP.
# Finally, i colour the pic in paint or something... Because paint is rather simple to colour with and with one click of your mouse your character is coloured. After everything has a colour, i then save it again.
# And finally, the shading. The shading makes a pic more intressting. I always make the front light and the back dark. The same thing for the bottom of the arms and the back of the legs.
# After i'm satisfied with the shadings, i crop the pic to a reasonable size and save it as .PNG. The quality of the pic remains the same as a .BMP but much smaller in filesize...
And thats it... If you ever need help with anything, just ask, and i'll try my best to help ya out ^^

Hey! Thanks for the comments! Well, i've read your profile and you asked for photoshop... Photoshop is pretty expansive when you buy it, but there is a freeware photoshop on the net called GIMP. It's completely free and works perfectly... Although i never used it, but a friend of mine use it... Check it out on http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/Hope this helped ya ^^
