Here's some information, pyon:

After you record these sounds, just go to File, Export as WAV, then save it by the sound name... argh, badly put. Basically I'm just saying that you DON'T have to save them with the hiragana as the file name. And it's also easier to make a folder, name it after your UTAU, and save all your recorded sounds there so that you know where to find them.
Now there's some programs that make using UTAU easier:
Audacity, for recording. Can be downloaded here: audacity.sourceforge.net/download/
NoteWorthy Composer, which is really only used for making your own USTs. It's fun to mess with, too. www.freedownloadscenter.com/Multimedia_and_Graphics/MIDI_Players_and_Editors/Not eWorthy_Composer.html
WinRAR, because so many of the USTs you can download are .rar files. You'll need this to extract them. download.cnet.com/WinRAR-32-bit/3000-2250_4-10007677.html
Here's a link to the UTAU Library Page, where you can download a ton of voices (even Teto!) and USTs: utaulibrary.blogspot.com/
I suggest downloading a voice that accepts Romaji (under the catagory Oversea UTAU) so that you can mess around a bit with it and learn more about using UTAU. Me, I downloaded Blythe ANAKA, but Siena Kotone's a good one, too.
If you have some questions about UTAU, you can talk to annamaeblythe on Youtube. She helped me a LOT.
Here's a good tutorial. For more that can help you, just type "UTAU Tutorial" in the Youtube search.

I also think that you should watch videos by SingingRobotStalker. She's a very good UTAU user, she is. ^ ^
Anything else, just ask. ^ ^ Can't wait to hear your UTAU.
