Chapter 8: True Nature Revealed
Gallows froze in a midblow with his double sided spear, eyes wide in disbelief as an invisible aura like no other, blasted him from behind, making his hair shift slightly. He whirled around, his gaze twisting into the darkness of the inner cavern, gasping slightly for it had left him somewhat breathless. He was aware that the whole hall had gone into silence, his allies and scorms in all turning to the unknown aura. The scorms began to yelp at one another, slowly backing up away from the party of four that ran close to Gallows's position.
Blood dripping from his spear, Gallows lowered it, struggling to identify the owner of the powerful energy, while grinding his teeth together in frustration.
"What in hellfire is that?" Duke whispered hoarsely, his Jagan eye glinting sharply as it detected the new aura in the atmosphere.
"I don't know..." Jessie replied quietly. "But it's nothing that I've ever felt before..."
"It's so powerful..." Ruscion muttered. "Any idea what it is, Gallows?"
Gallows remained silent, inwardly focusing his clairvoyance onto the energy, sensing its movement. "Well, whatever it is, it's coming this way."
"Figures..." Jessie growled. She gasped suddenly as a realization struck her full in the face. "Wait a second... James and Seth are in there!"
Gallows didn't look at her but straight into the cave. "I know. That's what worries me." His eyes grew huge as a figure emerged from the dark, coming closer with each passing step, its figure defining itself.
The scorms were hollering in petrified fear as they scrambled backward in a mixed up fashion as the figure drew nearer and the aura grew more powerful. The four flinched as they heard the small sound of crunching stone in the pattern of footsteps against the cave floor. The air around grew hot and humid, making sweat trickled down the faces of the quartet as they began to back away on their own.
Suddenly, the sound of crunching footsteps stopped, the figure freezing in place. It was blurry in the darkness, but the four could make out the figure lifting up a form that it dragged with its right hand across the floor and whip it forward with tremendous strength. The group jumped as the mangled figure crashed to the ground just a few feet before them, making their jaws drop in perfect harmony.
The form was Gelpa; his body twisted, limbs broken, blood leaking from open wounds and torn off appendage holes. His eyes rolled up to Gallows who took a step toward the dying man, his breath raspy. "It was...quite unexpected..." he gasped.
"What...?" Gallows asked softly.
"...I've...never seen such...power..." Gelpa whispered. "He...is no mere...Transformer...he is much more...than that... He...has surpassed all...the Dragonic Demon...only son of Locien......" His chest rose, and fell for the last time, leaving Gallows slightly trembling with fear.
"T-The son of Locien...?" he asked in a quiet tone.
"B-But that's impossible..." Duke muttered. "How could...how could his son be here? He's dead."
"No..." Ruscion said, shaking his head. "They said he was never found, but never dead."
"But who could it be...?" Jessie murmured as Gallows backed up by her and the other two.
Their gaze locked onto the figure that stood just between the border of the light and dark sides of the cave. They stared as if it were in slow motion, as the figure emerged from the blackness.
A right human foot emerged first, only it was changed and deformed. Instead of toenails, black claws an inch long curved from the tips of its toes and the foot was balanced on the front half, due to the black talon that twisted from the heel. A leg followed the foot, the jeans that it bore torn in several places. Half of a male torso appeared, powerful muscles built into the frame and arm, the hand twitching and curved as three inch long coal colored claws glinted in the light. A leathery wing and a tail trailed forth, spikes running from the figures neck down to the tip of its tail. The wing had sharp bonelike points sticking out from the spines, their sharpness well observed. And then at last, the head and the rest of the form emerged from the dark, the head hanging low. It slowly began to rise in the direction of the four, two huge fangs curving down from its lips to its chin. Blonde hair shifted slightly from the eyes, but not enough to render the shadows that covered that area of the face where two narrow, glowing red eyes the color of blood glared, nothing in their depths but a single long, black slit in each of them as a pupil.
It became clear that within moments of staring, who the Dragonic Demon was to the four.
"My God..." Gallows whispered.
"It can't be..." Jessie said, eyes wide and body slightly trembling.
The Dragonic Demon took another step forward, his identity clear as the glaring eyes on his face.
The son of Locien was...
I am going to be mean and end here. Any comments? ^_^
