Ah, well, that's just layers. In the box labeled "Layers," (it'll start out with "Background,") There should be a number if little buttons. One is a trash can, to toss layers, and another is a liiittle pic of a piece of paper with a corner folded down. Click it, and it'll make a new layer, where you can paint, smudge, or erase to your heart's content without disturbing any other layers. Hope that did any good, Elements has a different interface than normal Photoshop. ^^;
