Fullmetal Alchemist is an Anime. The subject of it is:

2 brothers: the elder, Edward, 11 years of age, and the younger, Alphonse, 10 years of age... find out that their mother is dying (of sorrow, because their father left them).
Their mother dies and they, independently, decide to lean advanced alchemy (creation from something of equal value) to try and "transmute" their mother, and bring her back to life.

But this prosses doesn't work because Human Transmutation is forbiden. During the transmutation, Edward looses his left leg and Alphonse his entire body, his soul wondering about.
The finnished product of their mother's transmutation was a contorsed pile of flesh and bones (a monster).

In a desperate attempt, the wonded Edward performes alchemy to attach Alphonse's soul to a suit of armor. In doing so, he sacrifises his right arm.

After this, they decide to wonder and burn their house because they had no other living close relatives.
They wonder about, in search of the Philosopher's Stone, a magical stone which is said to ignore the laws of equvalent exchange and regain their former bodies.

In 5 years, the brothers find out many truths about the Philosopher's Stone (that it's made, primarily out of human lives). Edward becomes a State Alchemist, at the age of 12, thus giving his name and "soul" to the military, becoming a dog of the military.



They find out that they are not the only ones in search of the Philosopher's Stone, but also 7 homunculi (artificial humans, created from failed human transmutations).

The homunculi are named: Envy, Greed, Gluttony, Pride, Lust, Wrath and Sloth (the last one took a similar form as their mother.)
