they're like extra-long episodes, which are, surprisingly, completely different story-line wise than the actual series. i think there's about 6 OVAs, each around 45 mins long. :)

i absolutely recommend it!! full if vampires and zombies and blood and the like. it's really good :D

but watch the OVAs rather than the series, they're better. :)
