first you should find a profile pic and put some of your info and interest, kinda like i did. this will help you make friends (it's easier to make friends if they kno stuff bout you and vise versa). Remember you don't gotta put where you live and yur name or personal stuff. look at my member info. it can be as short or as long as u want. next you should explore the category by pressing browse categories. Then look at a category you would be interested in. like T.V., Real People, books, ect. For a brief description of the a category, put your cursor over a category and a bubble pops up. read it, if it sounds cool click the category and search under pics or stories. you could read some of the stuff if you wanna or look up random artist or athors and read their profile. comment on something about you, their stuff, or them. If you really think they are cool ask if they wanna be friends. Now thats how you make friends and find common interest with people. try to find stuff you like. btw u should write some of those short stories that you write in my planners, they're funny!^-^ oh i almost forgot to tell you about the forums. go there, its kinda like the chat thingie on neopets or somethin'. just telling you they got that sorta thing. i think you will make friends eaisier that way and get use to the feel of the site. sorry about the stuff i said before, that what i do cuz that is how you make Anime/Manga and Game friends :P if you got any more questions just post or call me ok.
