Edit: Wow, it's been awhile! Well, for those of you who don't know me, hello there. I've been on this site for quite awhile (5th grade), and now I'm a freshman at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan, working towards a BFA in Illustration. I'm normally pretty busy (so I rarely do requests, sorry), but I love giving constructive criticism and helping younger artists along. If you need any help at all with a picture, just tell me; I'm happy to help!

Well, don't forget to measure yourself before making the outfit! ;D
And usually I prepare by getting lots of print offs or pics of the character I'm cosplaying as and put them up everywhere in my working area.
It's best if you stay interested in the series too. I had a problem of not caring about Chobits as much as I did when I got the outfit done.
Also, when the outfit is completely done, don't forget touch up's and things like that. Make sure you can walk around in it for about 9 hours at the least.
Also try it on several times and walk around in it at your house to make sure your happy with it.
Then get money for the convention ticket and extra spending money. Get a list of the events that will be held there at the convention so you know when your favorite things are showing.
Ask all your friends if they're coming and for the ones that do, get thier numbers and time and location that they'll be at the convention center.
Hmmm...I believe that's about it.
Don't forget to be extra clean and get to sleep earlier the day before the convention!
Man, sleep is ALWAYS a good thing, haha.
I only got 10 minutes of sleep the night before MegaCon and only 4 or 5 hours of sleep the night before JACON. I was sooooo tired, haha. Some people actually sleep by the walla and stuff XD
But I guess that's all.

You could also cross dress as L from Death Note. He's super easy. Jeans and t-shirt, haha.

I have been to 2 conventions but did'nt cosplay the first time, but almost did.
I have got a 87% complete outfit of Dita from Cobits. And I've cosplayed as Freya/Dark Chi from Chobits at MegaCon 07'.
But are you talking about a character from Naruto or just any anime?
And would this be your first time?
And are you making the outfit altogether or buying it online?
