Yes. As I was saying, he saw the infection as a perfect catalyst for revenge. So he quit his college studies to build his physique into that of a Hunter. So he snuck into North Carolina (Tennessee was uninfected at the time) got bitten, and got back to Columbia (Tennessee) in time to infect the population. (I want to say more, but I'll save it for later :P)
