Ok, so I actually talked to my mom about this. We had a conversation about what might be up.

I tried to, based on what you told me, step into your mom's shoes. I'm not siding with your mom. That is not what I'm doing. This is only what I think went on, and my advice.

I don't think you ever showed your mom your not-so-anime work. I don't think you EVER did. I may be wrong, but if that's really the case, then goddamnit, Mish, you need to SHOW HER. You're actually quite brilliant with digital works (especially your heart). Show her some of that, and tell her that she doesn't need to worry about the anime work. That is not work that you will show on the next portfolio day. The heart is. The blue lady is. The letter cat is.

Me and my mom butt heads every once and a while - from these experiences, I can tell you that your mom only says those things because she worries about you. She also seriously loves you, and she is your biggest fan.

This was not something to cry over. Your mom doesn't know the full story.

i had a heart-to-heart with my mom. turns out we're not so different after all, and we were both at fault. now, all is well in Mishville. :D

B) The So-So Way
C) The Not-Quite-As-Good-As-The-So-So Way

and D) The Way Mish's Parents Do It

Don't allow her to fight back. She says stuff like that, you reply with

"You can't stop my flow of creativity."

Or, you can even add humor to it.

Well the worst thing you can do is cry over it. If you can't convince her, you fight her. Not physically, but if you continue doing what you're doing (i.e., the word cat, and other stuff), and you do those amazingly original, and completely creative works, then you bring it to portfolio day. They will like it. You can say "I told you so"
