Be honest: Did the first-person perspective suck? I've never written that way before.

Well, actually, this is partly based on a book I read ("The Samurai's Tale). The main char is Ekyt-ish, except for a few key things:

-He'll kill if he needs to (It's set in Feudal Japan)
-His family is dead

There IS a girl named Sakura in here, but there will be more on her later.

The part I wrote that you two inspired was this:

I had filled a large cow’s hide with sand and used a rope to suspend it from the ceiling. Every day, I would come downstairs and beat on this creation with my bare fists, my bare feet, and my bamboo sword. Soon I encompassed daggers and sticks as well. Tonight, I felt anger, and I wished to relieve it before my brother’s departure, which was to be early the next morning. For two hours, my fists and feet flew, until I was sore and near exhaustion. But my anger had left me, so I left the dojo, bowing to it as I exited. I walked outside and paced the town. I had brought my robe and fresh clothes with me, as I planned to bathe. My workout had made me sweat much like the konidatai (the baggage train peasants) in the summer, and I was looking forward to my bath. It was late at night, so I assumed that I would be alone.
The bath was a pool, surrounded by rocks, and headed by a wooden deck. On the far side, a large Maple tree grew, tall and proud. There was little in the way of modesty, but as all of us were honorable, there was no need. The few who dared looked without invitation were dealt with, either by the Bushi or by the offended person. I started my walk down the dock, then paused to loosen my sandals. I kicked them off and dipped a toe cautiously into the water. It was heated perfectly.
I quickly pulled off my clothes and pulled my robe on, a long towel in it’s pocket. I had the robe open at the chest, so I could pull it off at first opportunity, once I was within the pool. Imagine my shock when I discovered that I was not alone. Not only that, my companion was a female! I debated whether or not to just leave quietly, but I felt sure that the girl had seen me.
“I am sorry, I did not mean to intrude,” I told the girl with a bow. I felt my cheeks flush. Though it was dark and I could see only a silhouette against the night sky, the thought of a nude female made for confused emotions.
I heard a small laugh. “It is alright, Ryuoko! I know that you would not walk in on a woman bathing purposely! We are here for the same reason, let us both bathe in peace!”
The voice…I knew it. It took me a moment to place it. Though I was the son of a Bushi, I attended a normal school, rather than have a tutor, like my brother had. This girl…yes, the name came to me, I attended class with her.
“I still believe I should apologize, Sakura,” I said. I smiled a little, in case she could see me, though in the near-midnight sky, I did not think she could. I hoped she could not, for I was now as bare as the day I was born. In a strange way, I almost hoped she could. I pushed that feeling aside with shame, though I had been told it was perfectly normal.
“Always polite and formal, Ryuoko! We are not in school, you can speak as though we know each other!” She had hidden a little joke in her sentence. I forced a chuckle through my embarrassment/interest.
Quickly, I submerged myself. My body was long and sinewy, rather then overly muscular. I was smallish in stature for a twelve year old, but I was not bothered by it. Not until this moment, when I wished I was perhaps a little taller and a little more muscular. But it could not be helped, so instead I went about my bathing, taking great care to face away from my classmate. She made another attempt at conversation, despite the akwardness.
“Ryuoko, what was it that Haruma-sensei told us the other day? About the sword, and the pen?”
She had been thinking about this a while, I judged this from her thoughtful tone. I wondered why she would bring it up. But I responded rapidly.
“Bunbu Itchi. Pen and sword in accord,” I recited.
“What do you think that means?” came the reply. I heard Sakura move. Had she moved closer, or was she simply moving a leg to wash it better? I gulped at the prospect.
“I think it means that we are not to forget that when the pen is not an option, the sword must be used. But it goes both ways. When the sword is not an option, the pen must be used. I believe that it refers to diplomacy over violence, or violence over diplomacy.” I furrowed my brow, trying to make sense of my words. They sounded wise, I decided. Sakura was among the most intelligent, she would appreciate the words and their context.
“I think you are right. But one should never rely on one viewpoint, just as one should not rely on only one weapon. But…you, of all, would know that.” She replied in a serious manner.
I nodded, forgetting that she either was not looking or could not see me. I voiced my agreement allowed.
This time I heard the sound of splashing; Sakura voiced a warning that she was getting out.
“It was pleasant, speaking with you, Ryuoko. Perhaps we could do it again?”
I smiled again. “I would like that very much. You are always a pleasure to talk to, Sakura.”


I dressed myself shortly after Sakura had left. I smiled, wondering if this feeling was love? Perhaps lust? No, I thought, I had not seen the girl’s body, it could not be lust. She was beautiful, but I was twelve, what did I know of such matters as beauty and love?

Sage, that was it. There was one other ingredient, one that A1 mentioned. You two inspired yet another chapter, but this one is going to be a longer one, and it's not Naruto, although you'll see little bits of Naruto in the story. It's chiefly about a samurai, and it's kind of Sasuke-ish, but a little more twisted^^
