I used Black, Gray, & White Conte-Crayon

Conte is very similar to Charcoal and Pastels, but is a bit harder (they break easily) and usually smaller in bar sizes.  All I used to create this art piece was black, Gray, and White conte bars and my fingers...no computer necessary :)

KarinCatastrophethis really reminds me of a photo I saw of Amy Lee one time. It's really good, and if it says anything, I thought it was a photo.

HeatherenieIt's called "Conte" it's like a hard chalk, kind of like pastel, but a bit harder than that even.  I used the black, white, and gray conte

burntshrubBy the way, you should probably explain what Conte is hahahaha. I don't think most of the people on this site seem to know what what you are talking about and think its some computer software (which I guess is a compliment). Of course, maybe they just don't read :)

HeatherenieYeah, OK.  I thought that was funny too and very complimentary.  I noticed that people use a lot of that computer software stuff on here.  I've never even tried doing that stuff, although it probably is an entirely new technique that you would have to learn.  But, I like to do everything the dirty way :).  I guess I didn't even learn about conte until my senior year of high school.  It's so insignificant haha, but to ease the confusion I I'll explain. :)

burntshrubYeah thats the conte I'm talking about. What type of paper did you use? Again, I have little experience with it. I've got several conte crayons but have only used them on illustration board so I bet its great on bristol board or something. :D

HeatherenieI have no idea what kind of paper it is.  I really never paid much attention to that.  All I know is that it is super soft and smooth paper, very well for blending.  And is like the only kind of paper that I found that works the best with any kind of pastel, chalk, or conte.  Not even "chalk paper" is good.  it's too rugged for me.  If you want it smooth, find smooth paper.  :)

burntshrubI hate you, I hate conte too, which is why I hate you for being so good at it :(

Of course, I've only used a conte crayon though, so I'm not sure what other ways you can use conte.

Heatherenielol, thank you?! :) The conte I use is like this square stick which brakes in half easily...I don't know if that's the crayon or not though.
