Sam: *he sighs, somewhat annoyed* ... Celine... if you were to cross him, or anger him at ALL, he WILL kill you... or well, he would before. Now he can't.

Celine: He wouldn't... he loves me...

Sam: ... He doesn't know what love IS... you have to see that.

Celine: *snaps at him* How would you know? All you've ever done is try to kill him. You haven't seen who he really is.

Sam: Correction; All HE'S ever done is try to kill ME. And only sick, twisted people who have never known love can act and think the way he does.

Celine: If that's true, then why am I still here?

Sam: Because he THINKS he loves you. But he doesn't. If he loved you, he wouldn't humiliate you. And he wouldn't have kept you as a prisoner. Were you ever once allowed to leave that office of his without his permission, Celine?

Celine: .......no... but he was trying to protect me... if I went out, I would be arrested...

Sam: Arrested, yes, but it's not like any of us here actually hurt you... he COULD have...

Celine: He wouldn't! ...He hasn't... he's... only ever done good things for me...

Sam: ... All he ever was to you before was a partner in crime. Someone to help you off me. I KNOW what kind of machinery he has - I KNOW he can MAKE you think and feel anything he wants... he's done the same to Sarah before.

Celine: ...you're wrong. I don't remember anything like that.

Sam: You can't trust your memory right now. He's probably tampered with it. Look - I can assure you that whatever you're feeling WILL wear off, and your time in jail will be up in a few years since we're going easy on you, and then you can lead a normal life. Without HIM.

Celine: *quietly* But I don't want to be without him...

Sam: ... *he takes the keys off the wall and enters Celine's cell* ... Hey. It kinda says something when you start making me feel sad. <:/

Celine: *says nothing, watching him warily, almost as if she thought he would attack her* ...

Sam: I'm not going to hurt you. I pity you. Stop looking at me like that.

Celine: ...I don't want your pity. I want Walter.

Sam: Gweee...! I just got excited all over again...!! X3

Sarah: *tries not to giggle at Sam's reaction*

Key: So, does Claire know?

Sarah: Yeah, we called her just a second ago!

Key: Okay, good... good. *sighs* Well, this probably just made my entire week. Thanks for letting me know!

Sarah: Of course, anytime! X)

Key: I'll talk to you later, then, I'm sure you two have a lot to discuss~

Sarah: Hah, right... bye, mom. *hangs up, looks at Sam, and then just squeals again* Eeeeee~! X3

Sam: *he hugs her tightly, his excitement meeting hers* Aaahh we need to get baby stuff! Like - like a crib and and I dunno! D8

Sarah: Oh my god, I KNOW! We have to find a bigger apartment first, though. D8

Sam: Yes! Yes, you're right! D8 Should we - should we start looking now...? NO! No, I gotta go to work - we can start looking afterwards if I'm not too tired!

Sarah: Ugh, RIGHT-- I'll start looking as soon as I get back, okay? D:

Sam: Right! See you tonight - I'll try not to drink! *quickly gets ready and leaves*

Sarah: *also runs off to work. She doesn't feel very different yet, but she knows that's all going to change in a little while*

Sam: *at work, he manages to free up some time to patrol the streets. So the streets, he skulks, looking for anyone daring to break the law under his watch*

Sarah: *does her job--to her pleasure, they had a good amount of scenes set aside for her*

Sam: *having to only deal with someone taking an illegal drug and a shoplifter (yawn), Sam decides to head to the prison for a bit. He walks over to Celine's cell, knocking on the bars to get her attention*

Celine: *glances up from her seat on the edge of the bed, her knees pulled up to her chest* ...Lieutenant.

Sam: Celine Gris. I came to check on you. Feeling better?

Celine: ...Depends on how you define "better."

Sam: Well, how DO you feel? You can at least tell me that, can't you?

Celine: ...I feel fine. Apart from the fact that I'm trapped in a jail cell... *mumbles* Can't see Walter from here...

Sam: ... No change? Nothing? You're still dependent on Walter Hobbes?

Celine: ...I miss him.

Sam: *he doesn't exactly know what to see - he can't seem to express his happiness in words, so he just stumbles out of bed and over to Sarah. He then tightly and tearfully hugs her

Sarah: *hugs him back just as tightly, happy beyond belief. this was actually happening*

Sam: We... we need to tell our moms. Right now.

Sarah: *grins* Agreed. :D *goes out of the room to grab the phone, then comes back in* Yours or mine first? :o

Sam: Mine. She really needs some happy news right now, I think. :D

Sarah: A very good point. *dials Claire's number*

Claire: *picks up after a few moments* Hello?

Sarah: *mouths "You tell her" to Sam*

Sam: *he takes the phone from Sarah* Hey, Mom. I've got some good news to share with you. :)

Claire: *is a bit surprised to hear this* Oh? What kind of news?

Sarah: :D

Sam: *his smile breaks into a wide grin* We found out this morning that... Sarah's pregnant. :D

Claire: *is silent for a moment* ...Oh my gosh, are you serious? You're having a-- *a restrained squeal of joy is heard over the phone* Honey, that's FANTASTIC, congratulations!!

Sam: Thanks! :D Uh, sorry for waking you up if you were still sleeping... ^^;

Claire: Oh, that's totally fine, it was worth it! Have you told Key yet?

Sarah: X)

Sam: No, not yet - we're going to, though! :D

Claire: Well then, go! I'll talk to you later, okay?

Sarah: :)

Sam: Alright! Bye, Mom! ^^ *he then hangs up* *to Sarah* Your turn. :)

Sarah: *takes the phone* Thaaank you. X) *dials Key's number and waits*

Key: *picks up* Hello?

Sarah: Hey mom, it's me--I just wanted to tell you something~

Key: ...And that would be...?

Sam: *waits, feeling very happy* X)

Sarah: Sam and I are having a baby. X)

Key: *is silent for a moment* ...wait, did I hear that right?

Sarah: *laughs* Yes, Mom, you did. XD

Key: ...Oh wow. Wow, just--that's amazing! Congrats to you both!

Sarah: Thanks, mom. X)

*the next morning*

Sam: *he's still asleep, head throbbing from the hangover that follows yesterday's drinking binge*

Sarah: *wakes up. seeing that Sam was still asleep, she gets up, grabs the pregnancy test and goes into the bathroom. they could really use some good news right about now...*

Sam: *he groggily wakes up, the bright light burning his eyes* Mnngh...

Sarah: *comes out of the bathroom, waiting for the test to work. she notices that Sam's awake* ! ... *sits down on the edge of the bed, between him and the window* ...hey...

Sam: *squints to see her* ... Hey... mmn... can't remember much after the funeral...

Sarah: Well... do you want me to TELL you what happened, or can you figure that out yourself? <:/

Sam: ... I think I already know... I'm sorry, Sarah... I promised - I promised EVERYONE I wouldn't do that again, and I just... it's just so HARD...

Sarah: Well... we'll just have to keep trying. <:(

Sam: ... I got myself into this... this is all my own fault, digging myself in this six-foot hole I can't crawl out of...

Sarah: ...Well you let me help you get out of it, then?

Sam: *quietly* ... ... Okay...

Sarah: ...thank you. *leans down and kisses his cheek, then stands up* I'll be right back, okay? *goes back into the bathroom to check the test*

Sam: *he lies on the bed, squinting from the morning light, his head feeling like it's on fire. Maybe Sarah can help. Maybe not. All it seems at the moment is that Sam is nothing but a failure*

Sarah: *after a few moments, she comes back out into the room, the test in her hand and a huge grin on her face* Hey, Sam... I have some good news for you~ X)

Sam: *he takes one looks at her. At her face. At the test in her hand, and connects the dots. His expression lights up, suddenly smiling and excited. Perhaps not everything going on is bad*

Sarah: *holds up the result so he could see the plus sign clearly showing on the front. her grin fades into a warm smile* We're having a kid, Sam. <:)

Sam: *he quietly sobs into his hands, not really noticing anything going on around him*

Sarah: *just hugs him, feeling a bit useless* ...

Claire: *bites her lip, trying very hard not to cry* ...

Key: ... *looks away from them*

Sam: *quietly* I-I'm... I-I'm g-gonna go...

Sarah: ...Okay. Get home safe, alright? <:(

Claire: ...

Key: ...

Sam: *he nods slightly, leaving. Home. Hah. He goes straight to the bar, drinking and crying, crying and drinking until he's passed out on the counter in a pool of his own tears*

Sarah: *stops by a convenience store to buy a pregnancy test after dropping Claire off, then heads home* Sam? *doesn't get a response* ... *immediately turns and leaves, stopping at every single bar she sees, trying to hunt Sam down*

Sam: *he's still passed out, depressed. His cheeks are stained with tears*

Sarah: *finally finds him* D:!! *goes over to him and shakes him very lightly. she can't say she isn't disappointed, but... right now, she was much more worried about getting him home first* ...Sam?

Sam: *he groggily comes to, drunkenly sitting up and staring at Sarah in silence. He sniffles a bit, somewhat dazed with grief*

Sarah: *stares right back for a moment, her disappointment completely overshadowed by sadness* ...Come on, Sam... Let's go home. <:(

Sam: *he sort of stumbles off the stool, silent and quite drunk. His shame mixed with his grief. Oh how it had to come to this - ALWAYS to THIS, it seems...*

Sarah: *puts an arm around him to steady him, and slowly, silently walks him out of the bar. Why did it always come to this...?*

*they make their way back home, and Sam is able to crawl into bed without vomiting once*

Sam: *lies on the bed with a feeling of self loathing clawing at the pit of his stomach* ...

Sarah: *gets into bed after him, putting an arm over him and resting her head on his shoulder. She wished she knew what to do... how to just... make him go back to normal... it hurt to see him like this*

Sam: *he gently places his hand over her, his hatred for himself and his sorrow for his dead father tied together into a knot, drenched in alcohol. He mumbles to Sarah* ... M'sorry...

Sarah: *slowly rubs his back and whispers* It's okay... just try to sleep... can you do that for me? <:(

Sam: ...Uhhuh... *it doesn't take very long for him to pass out*

Sarah: *hugs him until she falls asleep... she sincerely hoped he'd be doing better in the morning...*

Sam: *he squeezes his mother's shoulder, looking on at the open casket, at his father's non-moving face. He remains silent, tears rolling down his cheeks*

Priest: If that's all, then we shall move to the church for an honorary brunch.

Everyone: *shuffles to the church*

*They all sit down*

Claire: *doesn't take any food--she's not hungry*

Key: *nibbles at the bit of food she took* ...

Sarah: *pokes at the food with her fork* ...

Paul: *goes over to their table with a plate, and sits down closer to Claire* ...Hey.

Sam: *he doesn't even notice Paul. He's too upset*

*no one seems to be eating in the church*

Claire: *looks up* ...Hey, Paul.

Paul: *looks over to Key* ...Hello, Ms. Dawson...

Key: *is silent* ...

Sarah: *wonders how they knew each other* ... >_>

Sam: *he glances at Paul, miserable* ...

Claire: *notices their little stare-off* ...Now's not a good time for this, Paul...

Paul: I don't mean any trouble... I just came to apologize. For everything.

Sarah: ...??

Key: ... *finally looks away. she isn't sure whether she should accept the apology or not...*

Sam: *he wonders through all the misery he feels what this old man is talking about* ...

Claire: ...

Sarah: ...

Paul: ...Please...

Key: ... *nods. it's been more than long enough*

Paul: *sighs in relief, and relaxes a bit*

Sam: *to Paul* ... I know you...

Paul: ? *looks at Sam* Ah, yeah... I live next to you and Sarah.

Key: ! *didn't know this* ...

Claire: ...

Sam: ... You came once and helped us out...

Paul: Hey, I wouldn't have left you to deal with that on your own, now would I? <:/

Key: ...

Sarah: ... <:/

Claire: ...

Sam: ... You said before that you knew my dad... and now you're here...

Paul: *nods* Yep... We knew each other a long while ago... Pity we barely talked after that whole deal with the infection wound down...

Sam: Maybe he was just busy... and then he started forgetting people...

Paul: *nods* I can understand that... *sighs* He was a great guy, don't let anyone convince you otherwise, alright? *stands up from the table and gives them a casual salute* I'll see you around. *leaves*

Key: ...

Sarah: ...

Claire: ... *sighs* He never changes...

Sam: *he rests his face on his hands, trying not to cry*

Sarah: <:( ... *puts an arm around his shoulders, hugging him closer* ...

Claire: .. *puts a hand on Sam's shoulder, rubbing it with her thumb* ...

Key: *looks on silently. First Todd, then Harry... who was next?*

Sam: I don't need anything but I really don't want to go... but we have to. Let's... get this over with...

Claire: *nods gravely, and grabs her jacket before stepping outside to the car*

Sarah: *gives Sam a sad look, then follows Claire out*

Sam: *with Sarah and Claire, he goes to the church*

*They all step into the church--others have already gathered, including Key*

Key: *sits at a pew near the front, staring blankly at the casket* ...

Sam: *finds Key and leads the other two over to her, sitting down next to her* ... Hey... <:(

Key: ! *looks over at them* ...Hey.

Sarah: Hey, mom. <:/

Claire: Good morning, Key...

Sam: ... So, uh... *he feels his throat tighten* ... s-so i-it's been rough on you too, huh? <:(

Key: ... *nods* We were very good friends... I was sad to see him go...

Claire: *only nods in response*

Sarah: <:( ...

Sam: You met him during the first infection, right...? <:C

Key: Mhmm... If it wasn't for him, I probably wouldn't have made it out of the city... I owe your father my life, Sam. <:(

Claire: ...

Sarah: <:( ...

Sam: ... Well... well, I'm glad he was able to do that...

Key: ... *looks back over at the casket* ...I miss him already...

Claire: *looks down, closing her eyes. she couldn't cry. she refused to. she had cried enough...*

Sarah: ...

*more funeral attendees arrive, most of them being old soldiers, generals, other military people. Most are retired*

Sam: *looks over at them* ...

Paul: *enters the church with the rest of them. spotting Claire, he almost goes to sit by her until he sees Key... deciding against it, he sits further away* ....

Key: *had noticed him* ! ....

Paul: *happens to glance up and meet her gaze--and he quickly looks away* ...

Key: *doesn't know how to feel. she still hadn't forgotten what he (almost) did to her, but... this wasn't the time or place to be upset over that. she looks away* ...

Sarah: *had noticed that little exchange* ...?

Claire: *is much too distraught to notice*

Sam: *he puts his hand on his mother's shoulder, also distraught* ...

Priest: *once everyone's there, he gets the funeral started*

Claire: *puts her hand over his, and sits quietly through the funeral*

Key: *is silent*

Sarah: *is also quiet*

*the funeral is long, or at least, it seems that way. Perhaps it is long and it only seems longer. Either way, time stretches until finally, the funeral comes to an end*

Priest: Would anyone like to say anything about the deceased?

Sam: *dead silent*

Key: ...He was a good man. I owe him my life... He'll be missed.

Claire: *her voice breaks* H-He was the best husband I could have asked for... I-I... *is too choked up to say any more*

Paul: ...He was a good friend.

Key: *glances over at him* ....

The Next Morning

Sam: *asleep, doing better than yesterday (or at least it seems so)*

Sarah: *wakes up, yawning a bit. she keeps quiet for Sam's sake, staying in bed. she smiles when she sees his peaceful expression*

Sam: *seems to be waking up on his own* ...Mm... *he drowsily opens his eyes, smiling sadly at Sarah*

Sarah: *returns the smile, and gently nuzzles him* Good morning...

Sam: ... Good morning... maybe we should go get dressed then see Mom before the funeral...

Sarah: Good idea... *briefly kisses him, then gets out of bed, quickly getting dressed*

Sam: *he quickly gets dressed. He doesn't want to go to the funeral. He doesn't want to be reminded of what happened*

Sarah: *can tell there's something up just from the look on his face. she reaches out and lightly touches his arm* ...Sam? <:(

Sam: *quietly* ... I'm okay... this won't exactly be a fun day, though... *trying to change the subject* how are YOU feeling? Any different?

Sarah: Not that I can tell... I should probably go buy a test later today...

Sam: Yeah... let's keep our fingers crossed for that. Now, uh... I guess off to Mom's house we go...

Sarah: Yep... *grabs her coat, and heads out with Sam, to Claire's house*

At Claire's House

Sam: *he knocks on the door* ...

Claire: *opens the door--she's already dressed* Hey... Come in... *steps aside to let them come inside*

Sarah: *steps inside* ...

Sam: *steps inside* ... Hi, Mom... Are you feeling alright? Alright enough?

Claire: *nods* Alright enough... you? <:(

Sarah: <:/ ...

Sam: ... I'm okay... I just really miss him...

Claire: ... I do too... *sighs* Can I get you something, or do you just want to go out there?

Sarah: ...

Sam: *he gives up, crying into Sarah's shoulder* A-at least h-he d-died b-before he f-forgot everyone...

Sarah: *rubs his back, letting him cry* Mhmm... I'm sure he wouldn't have wanted to live like that...

Sam: *sniffles* ...R-right... ... I wonder how Mom's doing...

Sarah: *still rubbing his back* We'll see tomorrow... I'm sure she's doing better...

Sam: ... Better than me, it seems...

Sarah: *kisses the side of his head, hugging him closer* There's nothing wrong with that...

Sam: ... I know... *he nuzzles her, sad*

Sarah: *nuzzles him back, putting a hand on his cheek and wiping tears away with her thumb. she's willing to stay up with him as long as he needs her to*

Sam: ... I-I love you... and n-nothing's gonna come between us... o-okay...?

Sarah: *nods slightly* Okay... I love you too... *gently kisses him*

Sam: *he kisses her back, then rests his head against her shoulder, trying to fall asleep* ...

Sarah: *closes her eyes, still rubbing Sam's back* ...

Sam: *he eventually falls asleep, no longer crying*

Sarah: *eventually drifts off as well, still hugging Sam*

Sam: ... We might have to move into a bigger apartment, you know... if you DO become pregnant from this...

Sarah: *sighs* Yeah, I guess you're right... I'm gonna have to start looking as soon as we're sure...

Sam: Yup... oh gosh, but what if you ARE ~ ?

Sarah: *grins* That is a very good question~! Oh my goodness, our mothers will be so excited. XD

Sam: That's an understatement and you know it. <:P *he kisses her again*

Sarah: *kisses him back* Hah, yeah... *remembers something* ...oh... *quietly* ...The funeral's tomorrow...

Sam: ... *just as quietly* ... How come I never knew this...?

Sarah: Your mom called while you were in the hospital... I could never find a good time to tell you...

Sam: ... *he gets off Sarah, lying beside her. Sadness comes back after a while and punches him hard in the gut*

Sarah: ... *puts an arm over him, nuzzling into his shoulder* ...I'm sorry...

Sam: ... It can't be helped... *he sniffles* He's in a better place now... right?

Sarah: Right... heh... dad has someone to talk to now...

Sam: *quietly* ... Right...

Sarah: ... *hugs him a bit more tightly* ...He'll be fine...

Sam: ... He's dead...

Sarah: ...That means that he doesn't have to suffer anymore... <:(

Sam: *he hugs Sarah back, shaking, trying to hold back the tears* ...

Sarah: *hugs him tightly, rubbing his back* ...You're allowed to cry, Sam.
