Sarah: Sam, you can barely open your eyes, let alone read stacks of paperwork... <:/

Sam: ... Noo... I have to go, or else I'm going to go down in history as the worst Lieutenant EVER...

Sarah: Maybe not drinking yourself to sleep would help... :/ *goes out to the main room to get Sam some more water*

Sam: *muttering angrily to himself* ...If it fracking helps me cope with Dad's death, I'll fracking do it...

Sarah: *doesn't hear this--she comes back in with the glass of water* Here you go... don't get up until you're sure you won't end up hurting yourself or something. :/

Sam: ... Okay... can you call the Outpost and tell anyone who picks up that I'm gonna be late... just so they don't think I'm dead? *drinks the water*

Sarah: Yeah, of course. <:/ *goes back out to the main room and picks up the phone, calling the outpost*

Sam: *he drinks the rest of the water, then stares at the empty glass. His father was gone... if only he had visited his parents one last time before the trip, or if the trip was just postponed, then... if ONLY... if only...*

Sarah: *comes back after a few minutes* I let them know... how are you feeling? <:/

Sam: ... A bit better... I'm not thirsty anymore, at least...

Sarah: Ah... well, that's good...

Sam: ... It is, yeah... ... this reminds me of when Mister Smiles had his goons drug me...

Sarah: Yeah... it was a million times worse, though, you couldn't even sit up...

Sam: ... Mmh... or talk... or do anything... I really wish my head would stop pounding right now...

Sarah: <:/ ... *sits back down on the edge of the bed, next to him* I can stay here if you want.

Sam: ... You don't have to... I'll be fine either way... or maybe not... I can't help but think of him... how I wasn't there before he died... how he SHOULDN'T be dead... I-I can't think... PAST it, I just... I'm stuck...

Sarah: *puts a hand on his cheek* Hey... I know how you feel. It's going to be hard for a little while, but... it'll get better. I promise. <:(

Sam: ... But you said "almost" ... ... did you dump it...?

Sarah: Yes, yes I did. There was barely anything left in there anyway.

Sam: ... ... Well, there's still more in the house...

Sarah: You don't need any more, Sam. :/

Sam: ... I do, because then I don't have to think about how my dad got his brain boiled and left my mom while we were having sex.

Sarah: You can't blame it on that, this isn't your fault...

Sam: It's an awful, dirty thing, and I hoped I could see my dad again before he died, and now I CAN'T... I just want to FORGET... I don't want to feel this relentless PAIN, okay...?? I just... I don't want to think about how I'm never gonna see him again...

Sarah: *sits down on the edge of the bed* Look, I know how you feel. I came home to find dad gone too. I didn't get to say goodbye either. I KNOW it's hard, but this isn't the way to deal with it...

Sam: *snorts* ... Says you... at least YOU got to keep your dad around a bit longer as a GHOST...

Sarah: *quietly* That barely counts...

Sa,: Well he was THERE wasn't he?? How can that not count?? ... Ow... *rubs his temple* ... owww... ow ow...

Sarah: Shhh... just don't get up for a while, okay? I don't think you'll be functioning right for a little bit...

Sam: Mmnnhgh... *still rubs his temple, squeezing his eyes shut, trying to block out the pain*

Sarah: Do you want me to get you some pain pills? <:/

Sam: M'k-kay... *suffering*

Sarah: *hates to see him like that--she goes out to the main room, to the kitchen, and pours a glass of water. she returns to the bedroom and sets the glass down before opening the bathroom cabinet and popping out a few, then bringing them over to Sam*

Sam: ... T-Thank you... *he takes them and drinks down the pills, then he drank the rest of the water, realizing how thirsty he was. Must have been all the vodka*

Sarah: *takes the cup once he was done* Do you want more water? <:/

Sam: *has gone home, found a bottle of vodka, and has been drinking it straight - he had ridden the motorcycle back, so he had plenty of time to do this. He's drunk, head resting on his hand*

Sarah: *comes into the apartment (thank god I brought my key), and finds Sam like that at the table. she spots the bottle and frowns--she was SURE that was practically full before they left...* ...Sam?

Sam: *it takes a few seconds for him to respond. He raises his head a little to look at Sarah* ... Hm...?

Sarah: ... *approaches him, and reaches out to grab the bottle* Have you been DRINKING all of this?? D:>

Sam: *glares at her* Lemme 'lone... sho'what if I did? >:/

Sarah: *groans* Jesus christ, Sam, you're drunk... You know, this isn't going to help anything, right? D:>

Sam: *he gets up and staggers over to Sarah, his glare fiery and icy at the same time* You shut th'frack UP, ALRIGHT?? I f-feel TEN THOUSHAND TIMES BETTER than b'fore, M'KAY?? LEMME TH'frack ALONE!! D8<

Sarah: *is extremely shocked by his outburst--he was more drunk than she had realized. she narrows her eyes at him, standing her ground* I'm allowed to worry about you Sam, and this is the PERFECT time to be worried. >:/

Sam: I CAN TAKE CARE'AH M'frackING SELF!! I DON'NEED T'BE BABYSAT!! SHTOP frackING WORRYING!! DDD8< *he throws his hands up in the air* J-Jus' - frack! M'going t'bed!! *he staggers off, wandering into the bedroom and collapsing on the bed, falling asleep quickly*

Sarah: ..... *stands there for a long time, wondering what the hell just happened. she takes the half-empty bottle and empties the rest of the alcohol out into the sink. A drunken Sam was something she didn't want to see again. she throws out the bottle, and enters the bedroom, not surprised to find Sam already asleep... she pulls the covers over him, changes into sleeping clothes, and goes to bed, hoping he won't be TOO hung over in the morning...*

Sam: *fast asleep, upset, drunk, and unable to relieve himself of his painful emotions*

Sarah: ... *lightly touches his face, trying to empathize with him... she knew how he felt, she really did... but... the way he was trying to cope with it was all wrong. she hoped this was a one-time thing...*

*the next morning*

Sam: *is not out of bed and doesn't want to be, suffering from a massive hangover. His head throbbed, a painful pound per second, and the slightest bit of light made his eyes feel like they were on fire*

Sarah: *wakes up to find Sam suffering on the bed--she frowns, and gets out of bed, quickly getting dressed* ...

Sam: *he finally opens his eyes, squinting, in pain from the morning light - he speaks in a whisper, which even then hurt a bit* So bright... how'd it get like this...?

Sarah: You drank almost the whole bottle of vodka, that's how it got like that... <:/

Sam: ... Don't remember drinking almost the whole bottle... any left?

Sarah: No, Sam. There isn't any left. :/

Sam: *he cries, cries, and cries, like an overgrown child into his mother's shoulder*

Claire: *tries to console him, muttering comforting words (it's going to be alright, we're going to be fine, we'll be fine, he's in a better place now, etc etc), while at the same time trying to comfort herself--she was sobbing just as much as Sam was*

Sarah: *moves a bit closer to them. just watching them cry made her tear up enough so that tears began to flow* ...

Sam: *quietly, trying to calm down* I-is h-he i-in the m-morgue n-now? I-I-I can't s-see him...?

Claire: *nods, and finally manages to choke out a sentence* Y-yeah... th-the funeral's i-in a few d-d-days, though... y-you'll get to s-see him...

Sarah: ...

Sam: *he's even quieter* ... Y-you w-were alone in this house f-for... ... how long... how l-long were y-you alone h-here...?

Claire: ...h-he died... the day after you l-left... I-I didn't want to tell you... didn't w-want to ruin your h-h-honeym-moon...

Sarah: D:> ...

Sam: Oh god... oh GOD... h-he should be ALIVE! He was getting BETTER! HE WAS GETTING BETTER! F-FUH - frack WHOEVER MAY BE UP THERE, CONTROLLING OUR LIVES! frack "GOD"! "GOD" JUST WANTS TO MAKE US MISERABLE!! THAT'S WHAT HAPPENED WHEN DAD DIED - H-HE - HE JUST - *he shouts angrily into his hands, squeezing his face so hard he thought he was ripping it off*

Claire: !!

Sarah: D:!! *puts her hands on his shoulders and is about to shake him and snap him out of it, but decides to hug him tightly instead, even though his scream was rather loud* Sam... Sam...!! This won't bring him back, Sam!

Sam: I KNOW THIS WON'T BRING HIM BACK!! *he's crying again* I KNOW!! I KNOW...! Th-that's why... that's why I'm ANGRY...! *he's trying so very hard to hold back any more sobs, and failing* Ghhnk - I - I know... I know... he's gone forever...

Sarah: *hugs him tightly, rubbing his back* ...just... just cry if you still have to...

Claire: ...

Sam: ... No... NO... H-he wouldn't want me to cry... not for him...

Sarah: ..Alright... You'll feel better if you do, though...

Claire: ... *looks down at her hands, sniffling*

Sam: GODDAMNIT! *he breaks away from her* Th-this can't be happening - th-this is just a nightmare - it can't be real!

Sarah: *is a bit surprised by this* Sam, I know this hurts, I really do, but these things happen...!

Claire: *watches silently*

Sam: ... But he was getting BETTER...! BETTER!! Th-this shouldn't of happened!!

Claire: *quietly* It came back in the middle of the night, Sam... no one saw it coming. There was nothing anyone could have done...

Sarah: ...

Sam: ... Th-that's not fair... i-it's not FAIR... It CHEATED... t-took him from us... it CHEATED...

Sarah: ...Since when do viruses play by the rules? <:/

Claire: ...

Sam: *he stares at Sarah for the longest time before storming out on his own, walking, walking to anywhere that he believes can give him comfort*

Sarah: Sam--Sam! Where are you... *trails off, and sighs, defeated* ...

Claire: *watches Sam leave, then looks up at Sarah* ...Please find him... Make sure he'll be alright. <:(

Sarah: *nods, and heads out. she has no clue where Sam went, so she figures she'll check back home first...*

Sam: She'd like to hear about it too, I think. :)

*and so they get back to the apartment, with Sam instantly crawling into bed as soon as he can*

Sam: ... Yes...

Sarah: Heh... you beat me to it. XP *crawls into bed next to him* ...yaaaaay...

Sam: Mmmsonice... *he snuggles against Sarah, and is quickly fast asleep*

Sarah: *snuggles back, and quickly dozes off as well*

*the next morning*

Sam: wakes up and gets dressed, excited to tell his parents about the honeymoon* :)

Sarah: *gets up and does the same, visibly excited to go tell her mom* :)

Sam: *finishes getting dressed and grins at Sarah* You ready?

Sarah: *puts her jacket on* Now I am. :D

Sam: Alright then! Let's go! ^^

*they first stop at Claire and Harry's house*

Sam: *knocks on the door* ^^

No one: *opens the door. it's almost deathly silent inside the home*

Sam: :/ ? *he knocks again* Mom? *he waits, then tries turning the knob*

The Door: *is unlocked*

Claire: *is sitting in Harry's armchair, one hand over her eyes, her shoulders shaking every so often from her mournful sobs. she's too distraught to even notice the door open*

Sam: ... Mom...? D:> *he approaches her and puts a hand on her shoulder* ... Mom, what's... *the sentence doesn't complete itself when another thought forms and grabs hold of his attention* ... Where's Dad...?

Sarah: *cautiously enters the house behind Sam, glancing around--Harry was nowhere to be found* ...

Claire: ! *looks up suddenly, somewhat startled; her eyes were red, like she had been crying for a long while. she sees Sam (spitting image of his father..!), and bursts into tears again, burying her face in both hands. she shakes her head. she can't bear to say it*

Sam: *he figures it out, and can hardly believe it, his mood jumping from a skyscraper and dying upon impact against the ground. He shakes his head slowly - no, it can't be true - it CAN'T be!* ... No... no, no, no... he's not... h-he can't... h-he was f-fine - he was getting BETTER, h-he can't be d-DEAD...!

Claire: *her lack of response is her answer. she can only cry for her deceased husband*

Sarah: *puts both hands over her mouth, shocked--he couldn't be dead--wasn't he getting BETTER? this was... he couldn't...* oh no...!

Sam: *he's frozen, a statue, despairing. Despairing, his tears silently forming and rolling down his cheeks. He's dead. His father is dead. Something in Sam's mind... snaps. A thing that was allowing him to function. It shatters into a million pieces, and he only stares at his mother, stares in horror, hurting, despairing. Despairing*

Claire: *can only mourn. she can't even speak*

Sarah: *approaches Sam, putting a hand on his shoulder* S-Sam...? Sam...! S-Say something...

Sam: *quietly, his voice shaking, as if he doesn't even hear Sarah* ...H-he's g-gone... *he then breaks down and sobs, hugging his mother tightly*

Claire: *hugs him back just as tightly, sobbing with him. Harry was gone*

Sarah: *has a painful feeling of deja-vu--she knew how it felt. she's been through it. she understood... so she let them mourn*

Sam: I dunno... seems like I could survive a lot of shoot with a literally hard head. :P

Sarah: I guess so, yeah... but I like your comfy head. :P

Sam: Pfft... okay, just don't squish my brain. XP

Sarah: I like to think I'm not that hardheaded either. XP

Sam: Pffahahaha, okay. XD; You're... not... then.

Sarah: :P

Sam: Mmm... *he snuggles against her, closing his eyes* ... I like sleeping with you... you make me feel all warm and fuzzy...

Sarah: *snuggles back* Same here... <3

Sam: Granted it's probably because we're husband and wife, and we love each other, but still... *he lets out a long, happy sigh* ... warm and fuzzy...

Sarah: *sighs, and closes her eyes* Mhmm.... *kisses the top of his head* warm and fuzzy. <3

Sam: *he too closes his eyes, smiling*

Sarah: *falls asleep rather quickly, head rested against his*

Sam: *he quickly falls asleep after Sarah, still smiling*

*hours later, they arrive at the military base*

Sarah: *wakes up* ...? *looks outside, and sees they've landed* Oh. *nuzzles Sam* Sam... Sam, we landed...

Sam: *groggily wakes back up* Mnnh...? Oh... lookit that... heh... *he sits upright and unbuckles*

Sarah: *unbuckles her seatbelt, then stands up and stretches* MMMMMMHHhhhh... I needed that. XP

Sam: *stands up as well* Nrghhch, yeah... long ride. Wow. But hey, welcome home. :D

Sarah: Yup... now we can actually lie down and get some REAL sleep. :P

Sam: Seriously. D: And then maybe we can visit my parents in the morning - tell them how it was. :)

Sarah: Yup! And we can go tell my mom too. :P

Sarah: *looks out the window* Yup... almost home.

Sam: ... Technically, that's Canada, but hey, we're close. XP

Sarah: It's still North America. :P

Sam: Yup, good idea... *he picks his pen back up and starts filling out the papers once more*

Sarah: *leans against the plane window, looking outside, watching the moon reflect off the ocean* ...

Sam: It's beautiful, huh?

Sarah: Mhmm... sure is...

Sam: *he places his arm around Sarah's shoulders* ... This was a fun trip...

Sarah: *puts a hand on top of his* No kidding... Most fun I've had in a WHILE...

Sam: ... I can't wait to tell my parents about it... X3

Sarah: Heh, yeah... I know Mom will be DYING to know EVERYTHING... X)
