DNA evidence is often enough to convict a person of a crime. If you were to steal a car from someone we could retrieve a hair sample from the headrest or seat and then analyze it. We could retrieve some strands of your hair and if they match with the sample from the car you are busted. Also if you broke into a house via a window we could get fingerprints from the object you used to enter the window and maybe you could have cut your hand on the broken glass so we could take a sample of the blood on the window and analyze it in a lab and take some of your blood and if it matched you would be busted also.

Technology plays one of the most important roles in the use of DNA evidence. We use a process called electrophoresis which uses a kind of filter made of gel that's kind of sponge like and kind of like Jell-O. We poke a square hole into the gel and then place our genetic material into the gel then we add an electrical current to the filter which makes the DNA move through the holes in the filter. Now if you were to look at the filter under an electron microscope you could see the groups of DNA with the longest strands being closer to the square holes and the shorter strands being farther from the square holes.

If there is a time for everything then the time it is right to condone DNA analysis is every time to many violent murders go unsolved because of insufficient evidence If the police had had DNA profiling years ago we would have seen a lot more crimes being solved.
