Haha, close! Akira Toriyama is amazing (AND apparently he helped Kubo get Bleach published, even if it was indirectly), and he's my favorite manga artist, but author-wise, either Dave Barry or Anne McCaffrey were the ones I was referring to. ^_^

No, no, it's fine! You have to start somewhere, and it's a really helpful site. It's copywrite 2000 so that's . . . almost 7 years old. O_o I don't even remember what version of PS/PSP they were using . . . . (6 or 7!)

Now I feel old, lol.

Anyway, you can do it either way. Try it with actual color theory, and then work with their way too and see which one you like better. It might be something you want to switch between, depending on the picture; or you can combine the styles and come up with your own way of coloring (but don't loose that lovely purple tone you use!).

When you combine the subject with the "to be" verb (am, are, is), that's a contraction. Does that help?

Polykarbon's still around??? Wow! I'm impressed; I mean, I was visiting that site, what, 6 years ago? O_o (Lol, it still looks the same, too.) Just looked at the tutorial for coloring on Paint Shop Pro . . . man, that thing is OLD. I learned using that tutorial! I dont' do it that way anymore, but still. :)

And NOW I understand what you're doing. That helps. First, though, are you coloring using PSP or Photoshop?

thanks for my anatomy comment, i practiced day and night on naked forms to get women just right, it was long and hard, i'm not really into porn, but i do study human form down to the flesh just so that when i work my way up it looks just right. (i never use a frame to work on either like a stick man or shapes, i just use my knowledge to guess anatomy insted with my eyes)

as soon as i get a scanner, i'll try out the method k? for now all i have is a digi cam so b and d is my only good option on photoshop

I just think that CG'd work doesn't reveal the artist's true potential. It doesn't quite give me the same feeling I get when I see work that was done by hand. Nothing personal, though. I know it takes skill to use Photoshop and your pic is really great. Keep up the awesome work!

Actually, it's not that hard to draw the dragon scales at all. I think the key is to not think of them as little individual scales, but rather as a solid surface with a repeating texture on it. I genreally start at the head and "shingle" the dragon with row after row of little mini 'u' (or 'v') shapes, and after completing a general area (say, the entire head, or neck, or torso, an arm, tail, etc.), I go back and complete the shading on top of the pattern. This way I can focus on one segment at a time, and I don't have to clobber the whole thing at once.

But when I saw your chibi's, I printed them out and drew them in my sketchbook. Before, I didn't quite know how to draw them, just anime.
