EUREKA! I'VE GOT IT!! See, Punky's real name is Skye Breeze (or something along those lines, I'm still working on it), and she was originally a pegasus. But there was a terrible storm, of which Ocean thought she was the sole survivor. But Skye actually survived, but just barely-- her wings were ripped up beyond repair, and eventually had to be amputated. She had amnesia and wandered aimlessly for days, having no idea who she was. But some thugs who hated her father came along and recognized her as "That Breeze guy's kid", so they beat her up and cut out her right eye and left her for dead. But a kindly old couple of unicorns, Mr. and Mrs. Steam, found the poor filly and took her in. They soon found she had a knack for fixing things, taking things apart and creating new things out of the pieces, and other stuff involving... well... things.
