Would you be offended if I asked you if you had a persona of some kind?
I had an idea to poke a little fun at people treating admins like deities, and drawing you pointing at a various user and firing a sparkling blue ban laser. XD
Because I swear, people tend to treat administrators like deities instead of normal human beings, like if they hug an admin they'll have a giant ban laser fired at them.

Well, internally we use a unique numeric ID to identify each user (yours would be #94352). So if we changed your username this would not affect, say, whether you're acknkowledged as the owner of your submissions, who your Favorite artists (or Fans) are, who'se blocked you, etc.
However, the actual image files your submitted are are stored according to your actual username, and THAT would be critically affected if you changed it. All your submissions would suddenly appear broken and have to be re-uploaded.
That's really the only major technical hurdle. Aside from that the reason we don't already allow username changes is that it could be easily abused; say Alice changes her username to Bob, but then Charlie changes his username to Alice. See the problem? We would need some measure to prevent the "old" username from being hijacked by someone else after a switch.
But that creates another problem: say that Diego registers an account, then decides to change his name to Ernie, then Ferdinand, then George, then Harley. All those usernames have now been 'taken', which blocks the real Ferdinand, George, and Harley from registering their names.
These are both serious problems that could be easily abused. If we implemented the ability to change usernames, it would have to be an administrative level power to prevent abuse.
