I use Sakura Microns. They're purchasable at almost every art store; Michael's and A.C.Moore are where I get mine.

Ah, thank you! I'm honored. XD That coloring tutorial is pretty old, though... I've changed my style for coloring somewhat since then, and I hope it's better. I have the first page over on my dA account if you ever want a few more tips. ;)

Thanks for the comments. I like the way they came out myself. They still need a bit more work done tho them tho, and they were just done with pencil too, no ink yet. I'll get to them some day. :D

Oh, yeah. Ink makes for much easier CG-cleaning up. If you've done it in pencil though, unless you have super-clean pencil, you might want to look into tracing over the pic using the pen tool in PS or whatever. That usually helps. :)

Well, not to sound mean or anything, but I just don't really feel that art I did at age 13-15 reflects my capabilities now.
It's not that I mind critiques, really; you're free to critique, and I'm happy to find a user that posts a more meaningful comment than the usual "favs!!! this is awesome!" stuff, but I'd prefer not to remember that I have an old, old backlog of bad pictures. XD
Partly on the subject of which, I did redo that Iris (angel-demon) picture a year later, which I think shows some of my (hopefully) improvement. :)

I got DOGS scanlations, and they're amazing.
I finished Ororon 4. It makes me... curl up in bed. ;___;
And read it all over again, starting at vol. 1. ;_______;
Also, I bought Demon Flowers vol.1.... I was surprised it was done two years later than Ororon4... *___* The art was different, and to be honest, I'll kind of miss some of the style of Ororon, because Demon Flowers feels a little more generic... but she did get better at some things, so it's good. :) I'm debating how much I like her new style, at this point... haha.
But so far, it's really neato~ Now I have to go buy BAKU. *_* *determined to get just about everything by Hakase Mizuki, lol*

Anyway, what's up with you? ;D I just finished finals too... Thank god. Though, this year's semester grades have me kinda anxious and whatnot... not as great. u___u;

The problem is getting the money and convincing my father to let me use his credit card…heh.

Meh, Demon Flowers. My friend got me to read the first volume and I got halfway through the second…I’m not overly fond of it. I get what you mean about the artwork, though. Seemed a lot more contained. Doesn’t change the fact that Ushootora is freakishly awesome, but I digress… XD

If you go and get Ba_ku you may as well get Asian Beat. I love it and can’t exactly explain why…her way of telling stories makes me happy. *_*

Oh, I finished finals up on…Thursday. My grades are less glamorous than they have been in previous years so I was freaking out a lot trying to determine what exact grade I had to get to push them up to where I wanted…bah. -_- That and those lovely teachers who decided they should have the final projects be due the day BEFORE exams started…at least they’re over now. D:

Nuu, they luves you! They're just . . . my characters, and thus hard to draw. ^^;; It's always a lot more difficult to draw other's characters then your own, I found that out pretty early on.

XP I find it funny. Did I tell you 'bout that one time I heard someone scream in the cellar? My mom was down there, so when I heard a sound like a loud scream/cry for help coming from there, I automatically panicked and ran down there. Oh, yeah, THAT art. It's not... BAD, but it completely kills the amazing feeling of ISHIWATARI that was GUILTY GEAR. D; There's just this HUGE gap between some outstanding but boring artist, and THAT GUY. ♥ Seriously. (It had a slightly more realistic feel to it, too, that I liked a lot~)
I mean, you have the game, right? You know how on the booklet back cover, it's got that pic of Millia Rage, by the new artist? JESUS CHRIST THANKS A LOT FOR KILLING HER. She looks so cliche-anime. D: Daisuke Ishiwatari totally doesn't have his characters look so terrible. Though, I do admire the artist for doing some pretty dynamic perspectives and all. Also, ABA. But that's just all the time ABA. XD
I never quite got the point to Order-Sol, though. It's just.. Sol... in a red Ky outfit? *shrug*
I really suck at playing that game; I just adore the character design and artist. Hahaha. (And I still want to get Accent Core... so bad... uuuuggghhhh... )

Anyway... Jing is okay. It's not really the type of manga worth obsessing over or anything, and yeah, it's rated teen and all, even Youth sometimes. But I just love the landscapes, and it's still worthy enough (in my eyes) to be owned. :]

And uh, no, sorry, haven't played Pheonix Wright. Seen it; know the basic game and stuff, but, nope. I don't play a lot of handhelds... ...I picked up Tales of Phantasia, but I'm just at the last boss and pretty much dropped it. XD; I blame it on Namco/Tales series' insane amount of side-quests that open up AS SOON AS YOU MEET THE FINAL BOSS FOR THE FINAL BATTLE. (illogical, much? Feh...)

Anyway, I'm waiting impatiently for book four to arrive... And I also got WildAdapter 2 from a friend for christmas! Whee! (very early, haha) I haven't gotten to read it yet, but I love Tokito already. :]

...Othello is awesome, but so is Shiro, Chiaki, Mitsume, Yotsuba, ORORON (damn that was late) and, uh, like, every other character in that series. D: Weeeird. (for me, at least.)

...Amazon is selling The Demon Ororon: the Complete Collection. I'm due to get book four, but... I STILL WANT THE WHOLE SERIES TOGETHER. D: I think I'm going insane. XD

Yess~ It was like the second Amano stopped doing the character designs for Final Fantasy; it didn’t make any sense because it’s HIS series and yet the new artist is good and all (Nomura…ehhhh). Just…I love the way Ishiwatari colored his stuff, for some reason, and then this guy, while good at coloring, is just a lot more…cliché, I guess. Zappa looks freaking awesome in retrospect, though.

As for Order-Sol, it’s simply Sol back when he was in the Sacred Order of the Holy Knights (the one Ky used to be the commander of, thus the similarity in the uniforms). That’s also why he doesn’t have Fuuenken in that form; he hadn’t stolen it yet.

I end up playing videogames even though I basically fail at all of them by a default. No common sense and abysmal luck don’t work well with them…but how I love them so~~

I started reading Jing last night and I’m finding it very difficult to get past how the girls are drawn. But yes, the backgrounds are quite entertaining; reminds me of One Piece in a way. Very Western. Me like. <3

God, I am on the third Phoenix Wright installment at the moment. It’s just pure…CRACK AND STUPIDITY. Baaahh. XD I’ve never really been one for sidequests, though. I kinda’ just beat the game and then if I ever feel like playing it again I might try a few out or something. I NEVER get full completion on video games (EXCEPT GOLDEN SUN!!! I love that game soooo much).

Tokito is so awesome! But I have this strange obsession with Kubota, even though I fully realize he doesn’t really have a personality at all…meh…Komiya was so cool, though. ;_;

I agree about Ororon. It’s really rare for me to like so many characters, and yet I couldn’t really find much to dislike in that series (save Oscar. But he’s a special case). And I really need to get the series at some point in time…dang, I need to get a lot of manga, actually ::is falling behind again:: >_>;;;

The covers of the Jing books were obviously done at a later time, LOL. I think he settled down somewhat. XD I love the art regardless. ♥

I'm the kind of person that falls for Gojyos, Kami-samas, Tokitos... the like. :p Oh well. (Okay, maybe it's all just 'cuz he has Gojyo-style eyelashes, hahaha.)

I…just really felt like knowing about Ky one day…and that led to knowledge of Sol. I know next to nothing about all the others…a bit about Dizzy, though, but that’s Sol’s fault. Guilty Gear is just a game I play with my friends, really. Kinda’ hard to get interested in a storyline that doesn’t exist. @_@

ANYWHO I started reading Suikoden III and I think I really like it so far. Currently in the middle of volume 2. Jing…hm. Still delaying judgment, I suppose.

I…openly admit that I fall in love with the jerks. Sanzo, Kubota, Ni Jianyi, Hazel…yeah. XD The characters that people love to hate. <3 So basically I fall in love with the characters that don’t get along with the characters that you like, but end up being forced together anyway. How excellent. XD

I've never really had much of an ability to draw my own characters, quite disappointingly... Actually, if you look at practically any request/art trade pic, you'll see how much it terribly SUCKS. I really can't... be restricted in what I draw, which is why I don't like art trades or requests... not just because I don't want to, but because I can't seem to end up drawing anything decent or eye-catching. My drawing just... flows. I try to think out ideas, but it usually doesn't work too well. :/
I'm really struggling as an artist because I can't draw what I want to draw... *sigh*

Oh, I'm fine. We just had a snow day yesterday, and for some reason the snow's worse today and we're in school. o.O;; Roight . . . anyways. I really have no clue what I'm going to do or go to college for, plus I don't have a ride to go checking places. The nearest college is miles and miles away. I live in a very rural area, so I think it'd cost almost as much to get to these colleges then to attend them . . . ^^;; Procrastination ish bad, and yet for some reason I can't help it . . .

I really just don't wanna leave home. ^^;; For a while during Freshman year I was considering committing suicide as soon as I graduated from highschool, but I've grown out of that stage. Sort of. I'm still pretty morbid. ^^;; I just can't seem to see past high school. Blegh.

Can you imagine going back to kindergarten with the minds we have now? That'd be so wierd. o.O Getting straight-A's and shtuff. XDDD Talking like an adult. Can you imagine? XD

Even if you've no idea what college you're going to, either... I don't. And I have to try and find days with my dad to go visit colleges, and I really haven't visited nearly as many as I probably should have... oh well...
I'm pretty tentative about my future, and I only really came up with considering engineering as my major 'cuz my counselor suggested it, and there aren't a lot of girls in engineering, which means I might have a slightly higher chance of getting into college. XD

But, anyway, hun, don't ever think of ending your own life early. I mean, high school's a pain at times, but fun at other times. And college is just like high school, just away from home. Actually, I plan on trying out for colleges near home, 'cuz I don't really wanna leave, either. (Okay, a big part of this is wanting to come home on the weekends to play video games, and the other part is to take care of my pets, LOL) but still, there's a hundred thousand things to live for. Dreams! I want to drive all across america and go to California. (I like car rides.) I also wanna go to Alaska, Canada, Australia, China (again), all parts of the world~ *____* (<--secretly dreams of spending a few weeks in antarctica, lol)
Don't you want to see things, do things? I think it's a big maybe, and I'm really excited to what I can do in my lifetime. :)

And hell, college is a huge mess, but pull through with it. It really doesn't matter where you go. College is just like high school, really, just without lockers and with bedrooms on campus. :)

Also, for the highlights, went over it lightly with a green-ish colour similar to his actual hair colour, then a darker blue, then I did over the whole hair-space with white pencil. Also, I use the 'rubbing out for highlights' technique on occasion

Hmm, that's an interesting way to pick out highlights, haha. Never tried something like that before... I just tend to leave a white spot, and lightly frame the area with the base color.
For example, on the "luke smile" pic (sorry I keep going back to it; but I know how to color red hair the best, I figure, LOL)
I started with a layer of yellow for his hair, leaving out the highlights, then I overlaid that with a layer of orange, and then a layer of red on top of THAT. Then, I made the highlights smaller and smoothened over the whole pic by coloring over it with the yellow; this smoothens things over while lightening up the pic, but uses yellow, which is soft on the picture, rather than white, which can dull the shades and turn it kinda odd. And I let the yellow 'overrun' the highlighted areas a little, to make them smaller. Etc, etc! So, don't be afraid to blend lots of colors. It's really fun, I swear. (It's also just particularly easy with red, hehe.)

Anyway, does that help? Glad I can be of assitance! And if I'm ever going over the top, feel free to smack me back into place. :3

I think I heard it many times from Kelsey Allison and Tris, but it's never been a main discussion. It has a much longer full title, right?
And I ended up staying home and sleeping and reading manga. My first new manga in forever D=

Gurren Lagenn's a little hard to get into for some people. It's kinda usual with giant robots and screaming music opening, but I totally liked it, even though I'm pretty much bleeeeeeh whenever it comes to giant robots. I like some of the characters in the show.
The actual title is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagenn. (sometimes spelled a little differently, w/e)
Anyway, I just like it for one of the main characters monstly, Kamina. :] He's the guy with blue hair and so egotistical it'd swell up the sun. u_u; (Why do I like those types? Hahaha...)
It's a pretty good series. Really awesome anime, and good and pretty funny. It's not really particularly sensible, but it does have its angst and everything.
It just hit it big with a lot of watchers, so I checked it out to see what the big deal was. It's actually pretty nice, I'll have to admit.
(I personally prefer you find it on Veoh.com; it's so much better than YouTube, though they have generally less videos since it's smaller, but quality is better and there's no time limit (at least not up to 30 min.))
You should check it out if you have the time. :) Lots of people like it.

Giving up is just the easy way out. Struggle, fight, fail, and get back up. That's the only way you'll succeed. And, hey, your shading isn't BAD. I just think-- and this is common for a lot of artists, even me-- that people are often just too afraid of pressing down harder. Don't be afraid to go BOLD! You've already done it with colored pencils, and the results are amazing. :]

Currently Hakase Mizuki has Demon Ororon, Ba_ku, and Demon Flowers (only volume 1 so far) liscensed by Tokyopop. Empire of Midnight, Asian Beat, Maybe Blue, and Monkey Magic haven't been as of now... I've only read three of her series (Ororon, Ba_ku, and Asian Beat) so far, because it's next to impossible to find scans of her works ANYWHERE. No takuban releases of Empire of Midnight, even (sequel to Ororon, if you didn't already know). It's all so discouraging. D:

I honestly tried to mimic her style at one point (er...eight grade, I think) and found it to be insanely difficult. I use too many lines to fit in with her smooth, flowing style. @_@

I've been wondering, though. Your style REALLY reminds me of something I've seen before, but for the life of me I can't place exactly what (I've read far too much manga to be healthy...). If you don't mind me asking, is there any artist you base your style upon, or is it just a natural sort of depiction?

My earliest influence was Demon Diary. I didn't keep much from that, haha, but... no, I don't really think there's anyone in particular. Though I guess I'd probably remind you in little pieces of various artists... haha. :p

Oh dang, yeah. She’s pretty up there in terms of obscurity. I was actually shocked when I found out they were bringing over Ba_ku…obscure AND only one volume? Though I suppose Tokyopop would be the one to do it out of any of the publishing companies… But the fact that you own the actual books is amazing. I get mine from the local library (I swear my library has the most obscure series EVER and I ADORE it) since no book store ever seems to stock Ororon over here…and for such a bargain! Excellent~~

See, though? Empire of Midnight got maybe three chapters (? I don’t remember the number…) released in WINGS magazine and then no one really ever saw it again. D: So depressing…It hasn’t even been made into book form at all in Japan since not enough chapters have been finished. I heard it was Othello-centric, though. <333

Dare I ask who your favorite character is? I fell in love with Mitsume the second I saw him, but I have a special place in my heart for Othello and Yotsuba (he’s such a brat, I swear).

Oh God, you haven’t read volume 4 yet? …Good luck with that, that’s all I’m gonna’ say. XD But yeah, my friend (Azazel, as I think you know her) had about the same reaction when she found out how short it was. But by now I can’t honestly see Mizuki writing anything terribly long, as her short stories are SO much better (in my totally biased opinion, of course).

And I can totally tell it’s your work when I see it in a thumbnail, even. You’ve got a very distinctive style and, like I said, it reminds me of something…Demon Diary did hit near it (I can kinda’ see some Raenef in your older works <33). Oh well, I love whatever style it is, so I can get over this nagging feeling anytime now. XD

I read most of my manga online because it’s not in America yet…or at least the volumes I’m on (I’m trying to catch up on some series, but most of them have, like, 25+ volumes and I’m not rich at all). >_> Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Eyeshield 21, Air Gear, Prince of Tennis…all the loooong ones. @_@

I used to ADORE DNAngel. Krad was my favorite (right ahead of Satoshi). XD I’m still reading it, though, because I think Argentine is adorable and I really hope he gets an awesome story arc or something. One of these days Sugisaki will start working on it again, hopefully (though I kinda’ want to see more Lagoon Engine Einsatz first…).

I Think I'm the exact opposite, actually. I love Minekura's new style, and her old one kinda...irked me. Well, I suppose early Saiyuki wasn't too bad, but the stuff before that...I didn't like it. D: Mainly how she drew 3/4th views...meh. My favorite series by her is Wild Adapter, then Saiyuki, the Honey Comb (<333), then Bus Gamer AAA, then Araiso (though I haven't read my of it, mind you). I honestly don't remember how I got into Saiyuki, though...I watched the anime before the manga, though (oh God, the anime. XD).

I swear, all my favorite manga go on forever. Could be because whatever Shonen Jump puts out I tend to love (I swear, a good 75% of what I read is JUMP...). D:

I actually have Suikoden 1-5 waiting for me at the library and I'm going to pick them up tomorrow. Immortal Rain; I've read the first volume and the second volume is on my computer, waiting for me to be read, but my .rar software is failing me at the moment, so...meh. Oooh, I really adore Immortal Rain. Yeah, it's pretty shojo, but Kaori Ozaki's action poses are the best ever. D8 And her style gets better as she goes, though nothing hugely amazing. I'm a total waste of space over Eury Evans, though. He's amazing. :] You should definately read more~ I really do like that manga.
And, yeah, Suikoden! It's amazing. I love the artist, seeing as how she draws just about everything herself. (The animals, all the different types of people, etc, etc) And the storyline's really good stuff.
'Fraid I haven't much from Shonen Jump, either. :( Sorry to say, but I'm that weirdo that never read more than one volume of Bleach, doesn't read Naruto, doesn't even read/watch DeathNote or anything of the sort. :(
I think the only long series/popular series I really read are Saiyuki and Angel Sanctuary, just because I can't get over Kaori Yuki's awesome art here and there. And her characters. u_u;

For some reason, Immortal Rain really reminds me of Violinist of Hameln. The styles aren’t similar; neither are the storylines. I dunno’ what it was, but I can’t get over it. D: And I DO have to admit that this is one of the rare shoujo titles I plan on reading for awhile…but I like it thus far. ^_^

Same here, about Chiaki. XD I can normally force myself to read shoujo if the girl doesn’t have huge eyes…those scare the crap out of me (I had to force myself through all of Fruits Basket…). The only exception thus far has been Kodocha, but that series is just AMAZING. <33

And no, no disappointment. Most of my friends have no idea what I’m talking about, so for you to know some is awesome enough~ I really need to find a life outside of manga and videogames one of these days. And fanfiction…argh.

I haven't read the Cain series, so I don't really know how well AS might compare. AS is okay; I've got a lot of peeves against it, but I'm already at book 8 and planning to get more. u_u; I don't like the way she creates heaven and hell, though heaven not being all that great, yeah. It's kinda on the cheesy side. And Setsuna needs to get over Sara. But there are lots of really memorable characters, and so it keeps me interested. A huge amount of things happen. u_u; (I like Arachne, hehehe. It's a guy. ;D )

I've read here and there, but mostly just little dabbles. I don't know so many books since I prefer to read ones I can own. :( Makes me dirt poor too, btw.

The Violinist of Hameln takes some getting used to, art-wise. It’s early 90’s manga and VERY stylistic, but I’ve come to adore it. It is honestly the most balanced series I have ever read. Enough comedy to keep it entertaining and enough angst to give it depth, but neither ever seems to overpower the other (which is what made me dislike the anime, because they removed all the comedy D:). Characters and storyline are amazing. It’s not really a series for people who hate mood-killers, though, because Watanabe does it intentionally. <333

DOGS is … so awesome. Miwa Shirow’s style is one of my absolute favorites (up there with Oh!Great and Minekura), and the way he (?) does action scenes…<333 There’s technically two series and two oneshots to the whole DOGS series, but I still think DOGS/Bullets & Carnage is my favorite one (the one that’s currently running in Ultra Jump). The storyline can seem kinda’ confusing at times, but there really has one been 23 chapters to the current series, so I guess it’s expected. High recommendation, though.

Hm. I suppose if anything I’d check out AS on the internet first, see if I like it or not. But I do have a thing for character development, so~~ possibly.

I think that if I stopped reading fanfiction…the world might implode. It’s almost all Harry Potter, too. XD I feel geeky…

But alas, no one really seems to stock it, for some reason (you realize it doesn’t even have a result on GameStop’s website? Or Best Buy?). And I must say that my money is currently geared towards the upcoming release of Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings (5 more days!!!). And then I’ll probably by the first Phoenix Wright… but TotA is on my Christmas list, don’t worry. And if I don’t get it…there’s always the money I invariably get from some of my aunts…put it to good use for once. XD

You have to find an oekaki board. Some boards are fanlistings; some are free draw... Most you need to register for, and that'll take some time. (Possibly; some registration is automatic)
Oekaki works with... well, I use Paint BBS, which is one of the simplest, so it only uses 2 layers. But I think ShiPainter or something has more.... Google for some tutorials, I guess. Sorreh. :> It's just basically an online, community-style photoshop, with much much simplified tools. (But still all you need to create masterpieces :3 )
Anyway, I think KeroKero is all public-access oekaki board... HeKzBoX Oekaki too, which I've stopped by a few times. Go out and find a board for you! :3
Maybe a stop by Oekakiart.com will help. I dunno.

Oh, no. Have you used oekaki before? It's a completely separate, online program. You 'use' an oekaki board by signing up to a board and then drawing in an explorer window, online. It's fun. :>

The language is based mostly on German, because I love German. The sentence structure is more or less Japanese. Ich na Menskh du vünskhen essen. That is probably my favourite line. Meaning, 'I want to eat the human.' There are also snippets of Elvish in some of Shruikan's lines ...
