Harry: *laughs, coughing a bit, still smoking by the window*

Key: ! *looks over at Harry* You okay back there? D:

Harry: *waves her off* Nah, I'm okay...

Harry: Too late - I'm addicted and now my face will melt off or whatever.

Todd: Really, I've been trying to get him to stop for years - don't bother. XC

Harry: *sticks the cigarette in between his teeth* FIYNG. *walks over and sits down next to Key and takes the controller out of Todd's hands* I don'p play either.

Harry: *when the match begins, he button mashes*

Key: *is totally ready--as soon as the match starts, she just goes ahead and starts mashing buttons again* :D

Key: *sticks her tongue out at him, not even looking at the screen while pressing random buttons* XP

Todd: Whelp, we need to wait for a good time to call Mom, so until then... video games?

Todd: Awesome! ^^ *he sets up the xbox*

Harry: *sits down on the couch* ...

Key: *also sits on the couch* ...Are you going to play, Harry?

Harry: Maybe. I dunno. I'm not too into video games.

Todd: *whispers to Key* It's because I always beat him. :P

Key: Heheh... my brother sat me down and forcibly taught me how to play, soooo... I guess i'm okay at it. :P

Key: ... *sniffles, on the verge of tears* ... I-I guess I should have expected that...

Todd: No... that was... that was such an aweful thing for him to do - what an ASSHOLE... here - *he hugs Key tightly* ... Here... you just cry, okay?

Key: *hugs him tightly, and cries--she tries speaking between sobs, trying to explain, but it all came out as an incoherent mess, and she decided not to bother anymore*

Todd: *he hugs Key, rubbing her back* Ssshhh... shhh... you don't need that asshole... you're better off without him... sshhh...

Harry: <:(

Key: *continues to cry into his shoulder, waiting until her sobs subside a bit before she tries to speak again* H-He's n-n-not an asshole.... h-he's the reason people l-left me alone... h-h-he protected me...

Todd: Well it's not okay to make you think that he actually had feelings for you - that's - if that's not a dick-move, I don't know what is! D:>

Key: *sniffles* ...H-He liked me enough to w-want to defend me... G-Guess that... he thinks I-I can take care of myself n-now....

Key: *doesn't really believe him, but nods anyway, still sniffling into his shoulder, hugging him tightly. Alex would let her do that... what... what if Todd and Harry only liked her out of pity too? THAT would be heartbreaking... and she sincerely hoped it wasn't true* ....

Harry: ...

Key: *nods again* Y-Yeah... yeah, I'll be okay... *pulls away from Todd, rubbing her eyes* Jeez... I must look l-like a mess...

Key: *answers quickly* Yeah, yeah, I'll be fine... don't worry about it...

Todd: ... Alright... <:( *he lets go of Key*

Key: ! *hadn't expected that--she hugs him back anyway* ...thanks, guys...

Todd: H'oh my gosh! I dunno! What if - uh - we went to my mom's house? :D

Harry: ... She's like... an hour-drive away, though... D:/

Todd: You up to it, Key? :D

Key: Uh-um... Yeah, sure... If Harry's okay with it. ^^;

Todd: Harry used to come over all the time. :D Lemme just call my mom and see if it's okay... uh... when she's awake. ^^;

Harry: ... She's nice... used to come over all the time.

Key: Oh, okay, cool. ^^ *suddenly, her cell phone goes off in her pocket* !! *gets up from the table, muttering a quick "excuse me" before going across the room and pulling her phone out--her expression becomes ecstatic when she sees who it is. she answers* Alex? :D

Todd: *raises an eyebrow, a sly grin on his face. He elbows Harry*

Harry: Ow. D:<

Todd: *whispers to him* Who's "Alex", huh? ;D

Harry: I don't know. It's none of our business. >:/

Key: *keeps talking on the phone* Yeah! Yeah, I'm doing great! Uh, mostly....... ehh, hit a bit of a speed-bump yesterday, but it's nothing I can't handle..... no, no, really, I'm okay. I mean it. How about you, how are you doing? ...Awesome, that's really good to hear.... *her expression falls* ...wait, huh? D:

Todd: *he frowns a little, wondering what's wrong* <:/ ?

Harry: :( ?

Key: ...No, wait, say that again, I don't think..... *goes quiet for a few moments* ....I don't understand, how does that make any...? *sits down on the couch* but that makes no SENSE, I...........s-so that's it? You're just gonna...? *looks down* .....No, no, that's... that's okay, I guess........ I'll.... *quietly* Okay. Goodbye. *hangs up* .............

Todd: What happened? D:>

Harry: Key...? <:(

Key: ... *lets out a shaky sigh, like she's about to cry* ...How would you react if you found out that someone you really liked was dating you out of pity?

Todd: Hey yeah, actually, maybe you can get some juice out of the fridge and set three cups on the table? The cups are in the cabinet directly to the left of the fridge.

Harry: *finishes setting the table*

Key: Sure! ^^ *goes to the cabinet and pulls out the three cups, then sets them down on the table before going to get the juice out of the fridge* ^^

Todd: *puts all the bacon on a plate, then sets it down in the middle of the table and sits down* ^^

Harry: ... This used to be peasant food.

Todd: Well, now it's only YUMMY food! ^^

Key: *joins them at the table, holding up the carton of juice* Who wants juice? :D

Harry: *raises his hand slightly* Mhm.

Todd: Yeah! Friggin' juice, man! Woman, I mean! But... but yeah! Juice! >:D

Key: *laughs a bit, and pours everyone some juice, then takes a strip of bacon* ^^

Todd: I made a lot! Take more, Key! :D *takes six strips*

Harry: ... *takes three*

Key: Okay, fine. :P *takes two more, and starts nibbling on one*

Todd: Hooray! *EATS HIS BACON*

Harry: ... *eats quietly*

Key: *is incredibly amused by Todd's enthusiastic eating. she continues quietly eating her bacon* X)

Todd: *EATS! HIS! BACOOOON!*

Harry: Slow down, you'll choke.

Todd: Wewl NAWT! *EATING OM NOM NOM*

Key: *snorts, trying very hard not to laugh and choke on her own food* XD;

Todd: OM NOM NOM. 8U

Harry: *eats* pfft...

Key: pffffft hahahaha XD;

Todd: I AM NOW DONE WITH MY BACON. THAT WAS AMAZING. 8U

Harry: ... *nibbles*

Key: *snickers, and goes back to eating her bacon*

Todd: Would anyone like anymore? If not, I'm eating it. :3

Harry: *takes two more strips* There, that's it for me.

Key: *takes two more* I'm good too. ^^ *nibbles*

Todd: :D *takes the last bacon piece* OM NOM NOM *eats it*

Harry: *eats his bacon*

Key: X) *finishes off her last two pieces of bacon, and proceeds to drink her juice*

Key: *mumbled* I like having my hood up...

Todd: But then we can't see your pretty faaace... <:P

Harry: *snorts*

Key: *whines* I look terribleeeeeeee...!

Todd: That's a LIE, Key, you look very nice. D:

Harry: ... mhm...

Key: *blushes a bit and tries to dodge the compliment, mumbling* Yeah, absolutely lovely with all these bruises...

Todd: Even WITH the bruises!

Harry: *raises a fist* yea verily. *puts the fist back down* ...

Key: *blushes even redder, though thankfully, this was hidden by both her hood and her injuries--she wasn't used to having this many compliments* mmmmhhhh.... >////<

Todd: Haha, you can't make up any excuses NOW. ;D I'll make some bacon. Breakfast, ho! *gets up and goes over to make bacon*

Harry: *remains silent, but feels somewhat happy* ...

Key: *keeps her face hidden, still a bit embarrassed, but secretly happy. they liked her, they really did*

Todd: *making bacon* ^^

Harry: *waits on the couch, next to Key*

Key: *waits for her blush to die down a bit before looking back up at the others. she frowns when she notices a splotch of red on her hoodie (great. that's NEVER coming off)* XC

Harry: *turns on the television out of sheer boredom* ...

TV: *it's the news, which reports the spread of a strange sickness that CEDA is now calling the "green flu". It's becoming a huge problem in Africa, and has somehow jumped to Australia*

Harry: ... H'oh shoot...

Todd: Hey, don't worry, Harry - that thing'll die out before it reaches the US. <:P

Key: ...it already jumped across an ocean... D:

Todd: Well, probably because someone caught it and then flew on a plane over to Australia. We'll totally be fine. Remember the bird flu? Totally done.

Harry: Mmmnn...

Key: ...Guess you're right...

Todd: Hell yeah, I'm right - the media loves to scare everyone - that's how they boost their ratings. <:P

Harry: Bacon ready yet?

Todd: Juuuust about.

Harry: *gets up to set the table*

Key: ! *stands up, careful not to strain what she assumed was a massive bruise on her side* Anything I can help with?

Harry: *he looks over at her, somewhat surprised by this... then gives her a tiny smile and hugs her back*

Key: *smiles back, and lets go of him* Better?

Harry: ... A bit, yeah... <:)

Key: Good. <:) ...!! *suddenly realizes that she doesn't have her hood on--she quickly pulls it back up, covering her face again*

Harry: ! Hey... why'd you go cover up your face like that? D:

Key: ...because I look terrible. D;

Harry: ... C'mon... that's not the real reason, and you know it. :/

Key: Mnh... Well... you know how there's always that one kid who's just a little weirder than everyone else, and everyone ends up making fun of them? ...That was me.

Harry: ... That's no reason to hide your face... that was then, this is now. <:/

Key: Mmh... I'd rather not... it's um... it's a bit of a safety blanket right now.

Harry: ... You have to hide your face from your friends? <:(

Todd: *enters the room, fully awake and dressed* Hey, yo! What's going on? How're you feeling, Key? :)

Key: *is grateful for the interruption* A lot better, thank you. :)

Todd: But you're hood's back up! D:

Harry: Yes, she has a problem with taking it down.

Key: *frowns at Harry, not happy with how he brought that up* >:/

Todd: Key, that's silly - even I don't wear my hood up all the time, and I love wearing my hood up. <:/

Harry: It would be better if the hood were off, yeah.

Key: *tries to find an excuse, ANY excuse* ...can I let my face heal first?

Todd: Bah, you're fine... but if you insist, go ahead... once you're okay, though, the hood comes off. :P

Harry: *sighs*

Key: *doesn't quite like this "agreement," but she nods* ...m'kay...

Todd: It's not like taking off your hood's gonna kill you, Key... <:P

Key: *looks away from them* ...mh.

Harry: *he looks over at her, watching her as she slept* ...

Key: mmhh... *moves around a bit, beginning to wake up. she doesn't remember what happened the night before until she moves some more, and her bruises start to ache again* nrr...

Harry: *quietly to her* ... Are you okay? D:>

Key: Mh? *looks over at him* Yeah... yeah, I'm okay. Just a bit sore still...

Harry: ... You shouldn't have said anything... you shouldn't have defended me like that... if you hadn't this wouldn't have happened...

Key: ...I wasn't going to sit back and watch it happen... I hated how no one defended ME, I wasn't about to go be a hypocrite.

Harry: ... ... Maybe... I should tell you a bit more about me... since you stood up for me like that, it... seems only fair...

Key: ! Oh, um... *sits up on the couch, leaving Harry room if he wanted to sit down* ...You um...don't have to do that... if you don't want to. <:/

Harry: ... I want to... I feel like I can trust you to not tell this to anyone else... *he walks around to the empty spot on the couch and sits down on it* ... ... I don't have a birthday... the only reason why I know my age is because I had to figure it out on my own in first grade, based on the other students's ages... the birthday I've given to myself is on New Years so it's easy to remember...

Key: *is incredibly surprised by this little piece of information* ...why? D:>

Harry: I don't have a birthday because my father burned my birth certificate and never told me the day I was born... my father... *his brow narrows, painful memories rising back up to the surface of his mind, memories that were drilled into his head, memories that are impossible to forget* ... My father... was a DRUNK... he BEAT me... called me names like "trash" or "mistake"... I'm an unwanted baby, you see... and my mother... my mother doesn't care to this day whether I live or die or rot in jail... I had to earn every penny for my education...

Key: D8> ... *has decided that she will never, ever complain about anything ever again--he's obviously had a much, MUCH harder life than she has* Oh my god, I... I'm sorry... D:>

Harry: ... Please... don't feel sorry for me... that's all in the past now... I don't have to deal with my parents ever again. And now... now I have you and Todd... and I feel much, much better than before...

Key: Well... I'm glad I could help... unconsciously or not.. heh... what I don't get is um... Why do those guys think it's okay to beat you up like that? <:/

Harry: ... I might come off as a bit rude to them... 'cause I don't talk or anything like that... I just hang around Todd, and I guess they don't like that...

Key: ... *pulls her knees up to her chest, wincing a little bit, but feeling a bit more comfortable* ...I don't think you're rude... You're just hard to get to know... And I um.. heh... i get why, now. <:/

Harry: ... Well... now the only people who know about this are you, me, Todd, and my parents... no one else knows... I would have told the police or something, but my dad threatened to kill me...

Key: *can't think of anything else to say or do, so she just leans over and hugs him, if only briefly* ...

Todd: ... I hope so... I don't want you being all traumatized because I'm too stupid to figure out that my "friends" were complete assholes...

Key: You're not stupid, Todd... you just happen to see what's good in everyone first. Really, I'll be fine. <:(

Todd: *he gives Key a sad, small smile* ... maybe you should switch to the other side of your face... with that ice bag, I mean... it's been about fifteen minutes...

Key: Ah-- *moves the bag over. the swelling in her eye has stopped, thanks to the ice* mmh... thanks again. for helping me.

Todd: Don't thank me, Key - it's not like I wouldn't have NOT helped you... <:/

Key: Well... can I thank you for being a good friend, then?

Todd: *he smiles a little again* ... Okay... you can do that... <:)

Key: *smiles back at him, trying to reassure him--she really WAS grateful*

Todd: *he smiles back at her, a bit more widely* ... I'll, uh... go get those bed sheets for you. *he walks off to do so*

Key: *watches him leave, then lays her head back down against the armrest. she was still sore as hell, but it wasn't nearly as bad anymore. she smiles to herself, knowing that if this had happened just a few weeks ago, someone would have found her unconscious and bleeding on the sidewalk... she was beyond grateful to Todd and Harry*

Todd: *he comes back with a bed sheet and a comforter, as well as a pillow* ... Here... *he carefully lies the blanket and comforter on top of Key, then places the pillow under her head* Definitely more comfortable than an arm rest. <:P

Key: Heh, yeah... thanks again. I don't think I;d ever be able to say that enough. <:)

Todd: Well, you're welcome. ^^ *he then gives Key a light, one-armed hug* Feel better, alright?

Key: *returns the hug* I will, don't worry about it. *lets go of him*

Todd: ... Heh... I'll try. *he then shuts off the lights, walks off to his room, and goes to bed*

Key: *takes the ice pack off her face, and holds it to her arm for a bit--she'll have to remember to check for bruises on the rest of her body tomorrow. after a little while, she decides to try and sleep, hoping she'll feel a bit less sore in the morning*

The Next Morning

Harry: *he's up before Todd is, and wanders around quietly, just in case Key is still asleep*

Key: *is in fact, asleep, the now-melted ice bag on the floor by the couch* ...
