Todd: Alright, bye! :) *he then leaves, heading over to his and Harry's apartment. He enters it, using his key, brushes his teeth, showers, and then crawls into his bed - quietly, however, as Harry is asleep, and Todd doesn't want to wake him. He closes his eyes and soon, he is asleep*

*The next morning*

Key: *has gone down to the cafeteria to get some breakfast. she sits down at a table with her plate, glancing around, hoping those guys she met yesterday will show up again*

Guys: *do*

Todd: *sits at the table with Harry* Heyyy! :D

Harry: ...

Key: Hey. :) *notices Harry's silence--was he always like that?*

Todd: So... what's up? Got any fun classes this morning? :)

Harry: *lights up a cigarette and smokes it* ...

Todd: You shouldn't be doing that in here, Harry - you could get caught. D:

Harry: *while holding the cigarette between his teeth* frack society, and frack "the man", okay?

Key: *sniffs a bit at the smoke--she didn't like it, but she wasn't about to tell him to stop. not when he didn't listen to Todd* I dunno... Gotta see to find out.

Todd: Well, that's true, I guess. XP

Harry: *smokes in silence* ...

Key: *tries to suppress a cough out of politeness* And you?

Todd: Eh, I've gotta deal with my required history class. Harry's got physics in the morning, I think. Fun shoot, am I right?

Harry: ... ... So... you were gone all night, weren't you, Todd?

Todd: ... Oh. Yeah, uh... sorry about that. Sam and I kinda... well, we lost track of time. ^^;

Harry: ... ...

Key: *feels incredibly awkward, sitting there in that awkward silence. she was quite sure she knew what was up with Harry, and she could tell Todd was completely oblivious...*

Todd: Hey, look, I promise, we'll watch a movie tonight or whatever - some buddy time between us, okay? :P

Harry: *the thought burns in his head, just as long as I don't have to imagine you fracking Sam, but he puts on his best smile, nodding a little*

Key: ... <___<

Harry: So... *to Key* ... how are you...?

Todd: ^^

Key: I'm fine. Tired. Roommate is loud. :/

Harry: ... Dorms... sssuck.

Todd: Hey, she might NOT be in a dorm. :P

Harry: Freshman. She's in a dorm.

Key: *nods* ^^;

Todd: So! So... so so so... uhh... oh hey, I know - where'd you get that hoodie? That one you're wearing right now with the ears? :D

Harry: ... *smokes*

Harry: *gets incredibly uncomfortable from this. He is experienced enough to know that when Sam and Todd get like this, suddenly Harry becomes invisible. He doesn't try to even hide how very uncomfortable he feels. How empty this makes him feel*

Todd: *kisses Sam's cheek*

Sam: *smiles, and returns the gesture, nuzzling him a bit*

Key: *looks down at her food, attempting to give them some semblance of privacy. she glances over at Harry to see how he was reacting, and frowns. he looked like he almost didn't want to be there, more so than before...* ...

Todd: *he nuzzles Sam back, smiling warmly*

Harry: *he can't help but stare at Todd and Sam, not noticing Key, not noticing anything but THEM, and along with horror, a longing shows in his eyes as he secretly imagined himself in Todd's place* ...

Key: *doesn't have to be an expert to read Harry's expression easily--he liked Sam. a lot, from the looks of it...*

Sam: *notices Harry staring out of the corner of her eye, and is quite creeped out by it. she leans in and whispers to Todd* Can we go to my place...?

Todd: Oh! uh, yeah sure, that's cool. :) Bye, Key! I'll see you back at the room, okay, Harry? :)

Harry: *quietly* ... ... Okay...

Sam: *stands up, grabbing her tray* It was nice meeting you, Key. :)

Key: *nods* Nice meeting you too.

Sam: ^^ *waits for Todd to get up, before heading out*

Todd: ^^ *heads out with her*

Harry: *he lets out a miserable sigh, not bothering to get up and walk out. Seeing the two of them like that always leaves him a rather depressed state. He absently stares at the table, his head resting on his fist, his frown heavy. Even if Todd and Sam weren't together, she'd never go out with the likes of HIM... after all, Harry's simply another ugly, creepy guy* ...

Key: *is too afraid to ask and confirm her suspicions--he looked much too upset for that--so she simply gets up, and picks up her tray* ...See you later. *turns and leaves*

Harry: *doesn't bother looking up, or even answering Key when she leaves. He stays there, thinking*

Guy: *comes up to Harry and shoves him roughly* Hey, tall dark and ugly, was that your girlfriend?

Harry: *quietly, picking himself back up* ... n -

Guy: Of course not - you CAN'T get a girlfriend, and you CAN'T make friends - I must be retarded, asking that or something.

Harry: ...

Guy: Haha, okay, no answers, I get it. See you later, asshole. *walks off*

Harry: ... ... *he gets up and leaves, finally, to his and Todd's apartment. He's not surprised to see Todd still not back, so he brushes his teeth, takes a shower, and goes to bed with a sigh*

Key: *heads up to her room, as she has no more classes today. she had to admit, today had gone much better than she thought it would... she goes to bed somewhat reassured--maybe this won't be as bad as she'd assumed it would be.*

Todd: ... This is kinda really sad... were you like this in high school, or are you just acting like this because you feel overwhelmed? <:/

Harry: ... Jeez, Todd...

Key: *almost inaudibly* first one... *almost immediately regrets answering him--now they weren't going to stop asking her questions!*

Todd: Heh, I'll... wait until we're more familiar with each other before I ask any questions related to that... eheh... wanna hear a little bit about me? Will that make you feel a bit more comfortable, knowing a bit about me like that?

Todd: Alright, let's see... uhhh... I'm twenty-two... when I was around eight or something, my dad died... hmm... I really like parkour. I want to be a professional stunt man. Like, in the movies. :)

Harry: ...

Key: ...Cool. I, um... I used to parkour too.

Sam: Ha! lookit that, you have something in common! :P

Todd: Only used to though? What happened? :D

Harry: *snorts*

Todd: Ohh... I'm sorry. D:> Still, you shouldn't let an injury keep you down - I'm broken a whole assortment of bones while out doing parkour, and not once have I given up on it. Though I guess it helps that parkour is kinda my passion... heh. ^^;

Key: Heh... *glances at Harry* What about him?

Key: *winces a little bit at Harry's tone* okay...

Sam: *leans into Todd a bit, putting her arm around his middle*

Key: *is a bit embarassed to admit it, but she nods. she may as well talk to Todd--there wasn't anything UNfriendly about him* >__>

Todd: *He grins a sort of grin that one could find on a child. His eyes sparkle with excitement, excitement which he has to contain when he asks her his next question* Oh my gosh, which one's your favorite?? :D

Harry: *facepalms*

Key: *smiles a bit from under her hood* Princess and the Frog?

Sam: ! *braces herself for what's coming next*

Todd: OMIGOSH ARE YOU SERIOUS WHAT - THAT'S YOUR FAVORITE TOO?? 8D

Harry: *keeps his head on his hand, squeezing his face with his fingers* >XC ...

Sam: *snickers, incredibly amused*

Key: *her smile widens--she nods*

*Later, at dinner time*

Todd: *heads into the mess hall with Harry. Together they get their food and wander around, looking for a table*

Harry: *follows closely behind him, carrying a container of soup and a water bottle* ...

Key: *is sitting alone again with a plate of pasta*

Todd: *sees her* :D *walks with Harry and sits down beside her again* Hey! Told you I'd find you again later. :) So how was your first class here, if you don't mind me asking?

Harry: ... ... *sits down across from the new girl once again, sighing in annoyance at Todd's persistence to make the poor girl talk*

Key: *was actually s bit happy to see them. she still mumbles* It was okay.

Todd: Well, hey, so not bad for a first day, right? :D Harry, how was your class?

Harry: Mff... guess what we watched?

Todd: A... film? D:

Harry: What an educated guess. Give this man a medal.

Todd: Pfft. I dunno. What did you watch. :P

Todd: Did you watch that last year?

Harry: And the year before that. It's the same essay with a different teacher. I'll just use a previous essay that doesn't SUCK.

Key: *listens to the two men talk back and forth. she could only ever do that with Alex... she really needs some friends. she directs her unintentionally quiet question towards Todd* How about you?

Todd: *smiles, happy to see her interacting a bit more* I was late, so I had to run two laps around the track. Not that that's a problem. Oh - I major in track and field, just so you know. While I was doing that, my teacher went through the same old rules for the new people and as a reminder for the old people. Not that I need a reminder. XP

Harry: *quietly eats his soup*

Key: Mm. *puts a forkful of pasta in her mouth, then notices someone else approaching the table* ...

Sam: Hello, Todd~ *sits down next to Todd* Uuuugh, class today was horribly boring... DX *sees Key* Oh. Who's this?

Todd: New girl. I'm trying to make her feel welcome. :)

Harry: *quietly, in a near-whisper* ... ... Hi Sam....

Key: *is silent--she already didn't like her. she reminded her too much of those girls in high school who would never leave her alone...*

Harry: ... ... *goes back to eating his soup, every once in a while looking up at Sam* ...

Key: ... *mumbles* Key.

*Before the infection, before anything ever occurred, anything dark, anything sinister ever happened, there was a normal life. In a small, particularly moderate sort of college, students gather in cafes, in the dining hall, to eat lunch. It is the beginning of the college year*

Todd: *in the dining hall with his friend, Harry, he wanders about finding a table*

Harry: ... You got pizza again. You've got piza nearly every time last year. XC

Todd: I can handle it - I'm the one with all the athletic sort of classes, anyway. :P

Key: *is a younger girl, clad in a strange eared hoodie, her hood up. this and her long bangs almost completely obscure her face. she finds a table to sit at by herself, in a far corner of the lunchroom. she picks at her food, not quite feeling very hungry*

Todd: *thumbs over at the table where the quiet hoodie-clad girl sits* Hey, maybe we can sit over there? :D

Harry: ... With that... that one person? D:

Todd: Ohh, stop being so antisocial. C'mon! :D *grabs Harry's wrist and drags him over to the table. He speaks to the new-looking girl* Hiya! Mind if we sit here? ^^

Harry: *is tense all over, not wanting to have to interact with anyone who isn't Todd* >____>

Key: *looks up, surprised, not expecting anyone to want to sit with her. she quickly glances around (there are open tables...). she gives them a small nod, and returns to prodding at her food* ...

Todd: *to Harry, rather loudly* I am trying to be FRIENDLY, Harry - maybe this'll be good for YOU as well as HER.

Key: *Uh oh. What to say? She knew college would be a fresh start, but she didn't think she'd have someone WALK UP TO HER like it was NOTHING... she mumbles* ...i have a class in an hour...

Todd: Ahh... that's enough time, right? It's a small campus. Not to make you feel uncomfortable or anything. Am I making you feel uncomfortable? I get that a lot from Harry. <:P

Harry: Stop using my name... >____________>

Key: *still mumbling* Only a bit... *isn't quite used to having prolonged conversation with a stranger--well, with anyone. the only person she talked to regularly was Alex, and he had gone off to a different school...*

Todd: Ah, sorry about that... it's fun for me to meet new people - I LOVE making new friends, y'know? We can go ahead and leave you alone if you want. <:/

Key: ... *looks back down at her food, poking at it with her fork. she didn't want them to leave, but... she didn't know them. she wouldn't be able to talk to them. it'd be MUCH too awkward for her*

Todd: ... Well... uh... I'll consider that a non-answer. I'll try finding you again some time later. Maybe we can learn some more about each other. <:) *gets up* Come on, Harry.

Harry: *quietly* ... I didn't finish my lunch...

Todd: We can eat somewhere else. :P *walks over and sits at an empty table*

Harry: ... *glances at the new girl, then follows Todd over*

Key: *watches the two from under her hood as they leave. That guy Harry would've met her eyes if they weren't partially obscured by her hair. maybe she should have let them stay? a part of her hoped that Todd guy would talk to her again... she really needed a friend. then again, she doubted he'd come back. maybe he only said it to be nice? losing her appetite, she stands up, slings her black messenger bag over her shoulder, and takes her tray, dumping it out, and leaving the lunchroom*

Todd: So... that girl seems interesting. <:P

Harry: You already have a girlfriend.

Todd: *takes a bite of his pizza* I didn't mean like thaaat! I meant, like, I think she could use a little help coming out of her shell. She needs a friend here, it seems - I HATE seeing people all depressed and lonely like that.

Harry: ...I get it... sure... *picks at his pasta*

Todd: ... So... uh... *twiddles his thumbs, looking around the room* So did you here about the possibility of mad cow disease coming back? Like... I dunno.

Harry: Eh.

Todd: Something about some animal in Africa maybe or something.

Harry: Then whatever it is, it probably won't ever reach here.

Todd: ... Yeah...

Key: *walks back to her dorm room, looking down at the floor the entire time. At least, until some guy bumps her. he obviously did so on purpose, but she ignored the older student's taunts and kept walking, as she was so used to doing. sometimes she wished she was a foot taller. she goes into her room and glances around--of course, her roommate is gone. she's always gone. she puts her bag down on her bed, and sits down on it with a sigh. now, she waited until it was time for her to go to class.*

*after talking of random things, Harry and Todd go their separate ways, Todd to his Track and Field class, Harry to his Film class*

Todd: *ends up being late for his class - he runs out to the track, over to his teacher* Sorry I'm late! D:

Mr. Benson: Two laps, Todd.

Todd: Alright, Mr. Benson! ^^ *goes out to do so*

Mr. Benson: *smiles a little to himself, shaking his head at how very little Todd complains about anything in his class - the kid loves to run, loves to jump, loves to be active. Hell, he had an A the year before - a very difficult grade to get from such a demanding class*

Harry: *unlike Todd, he's right on time. The students watch Casablanca, and right on the first day they have to write an essay as to why the damn thing is a masterpiece. As he watches, Harry groans inwardly. He had to do the same thing last year, and the year before that. How many times does he have to watch Casablanca before he can get out of this shootty college?*

Key: *heads off to her Writing class when it is time to do so. The room was a lot closer than she anticipated, and she arrives early. She is forced to sit outside the room until the teacher opened the door, and as soon as this happens, she scurries inside and sits farther back (but not too far back don't want to draw attention). the class went by quickly, as all the teacher did was rant about the expectations for the class and how if they don't pass they'll have to repeat until they do. boring, first day of class stuff. another boy tried to talk to her, but she shrugged him off, as usual. maybe she should try being friendlier... nah. not yet*
