When I was a beginner, I rarely used references. In fact...I didn't even take any art classes or art books or anything. For some reason, I was determined to learn all by myself. So I drew whatever was in my head. But that was kind of silly of me. ^^; There's nothing wrong with art books, art classes or references. Especially if you're a beginner. Just as long as you give credit to the reference you used. And if you use a reference from someone else's picture, you have to ask them if you can use it first. (If its just to see what their person looks like or whatever, I would guess that, that's fine.) But if you were using a pose of theirs or something like that.
I dunno. I need to stop blabbering. ~_~

Anyways, I kinda wished I took art classes and used references more when I was still a beginner. I probably would have gotten better a lot faster. So...I guess I'm just a rookie right now. ^^;

I'm at the point in my stories where all the stuff I write is coming from my head and I'm not following the original Yugioh storyline anymore. Because...well...the storyline ended. o_o;
So that makes it a little tougher for me. ^-^;

I only like being busy when I'm into whatever I'm doing or I'm enjoying it.

Weellll...DA actually is better than FAC. You can submit as much pictures as you want in a day instead of being limited to three pictures here. And you don't have to wait for the staff to approve the picture. It just pops up.
Also, picture and story alerts aren't in emails. They're in your message boxes. Theres journals there that are kinda like blogs and you get alerted if one of your friends posts a journal.
Plus a lot of the icons and emoticons there are fun to use. ^^
Plus you get statistics on your art. Like...it'll tell you which one of your pictures has the most favorites or has the most comments or views. It'll tell you what your most busiest month was. (What month you posted the most pictures.) And it'll even tell you what day you usually post pictures.
I dunno...I thought that was kinda cool.

But that's my opinion.
Most of the people I knew on FAC had moved to DA. So thats partly the reason why I moved over to DA.

Anywho, the choice is ultimately up to you.

That's alright. Friendship is actually one of the most important things in my life too. I would have been pretty messed up right now if it weren't for some of the friends I have now. ^^
But yea...Friendship is really important to me too...and I really love it...I just don't go preaching it and talk about it constantly. ^^; lol
