Also, for the highlights, went over it lightly with a green-ish colour similar to his actual hair colour, then a darker blue, then I did over the whole hair-space with white pencil. Also, I use the 'rubbing out for highlights' technique on occasion

Hmm, that's an interesting way to pick out highlights, haha. Never tried something like that before... I just tend to leave a white spot, and lightly frame the area with the base color.
For example, on the "luke smile" pic (sorry I keep going back to it; but I know how to color red hair the best, I figure, LOL)
I started with a layer of yellow for his hair, leaving out the highlights, then I overlaid that with a layer of orange, and then a layer of red on top of THAT. Then, I made the highlights smaller and smoothened over the whole pic by coloring over it with the yellow; this smoothens things over while lightening up the pic, but uses yellow, which is soft on the picture, rather than white, which can dull the shades and turn it kinda odd. And I let the yellow 'overrun' the highlighted areas a little, to make them smaller. Etc, etc! So, don't be afraid to blend lots of colors. It's really fun, I swear. (It's also just particularly easy with red, hehe.)

Anyway, does that help? Glad I can be of assitance! And if I'm ever going over the top, feel free to smack me back into place. :3

I think I heard it many times from Kelsey Allison and Tris, but it's never been a main discussion. It has a much longer full title, right?
And I ended up staying home and sleeping and reading manga. My first new manga in forever D=
+Anima vol 5 and Faeries' Landing vol 16 and 17 <3 Though I still have to read that last one D=

Gurren Lagenn's a little hard to get into for some people. It's kinda usual with giant robots and screaming music opening, but I totally liked it, even though I'm pretty much bleeeeeeh whenever it comes to giant robots. I like some of the characters in the show.
The actual title is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagenn. (sometimes spelled a little differently, w/e)
Anyway, I just like it for one of the main characters monstly, Kamina. :] He's the guy with blue hair and so egotistical it'd swell up the sun. u_u; (Why do I like those types? Hahaha...)
It's a pretty good series. Really awesome anime, and good and pretty funny. It's not really particularly sensible, but it does have its angst and everything.
It just hit it big with a lot of watchers, so I checked it out to see what the big deal was. It's actually pretty nice, I'll have to admit.
(I personally prefer you find it on Veoh.com; it's so much better than YouTube, though they have generally less videos since it's smaller, but quality is better and there's no time limit (at least not up to 30 min.))
You should check it out if you have the time. :) Lots of people like it.

NO. NONONONO, NO. Don't be so down on yourself, darling!! You're amazing, really! You didn't give up with colored pencils, and look where that got you!! :) Don't ever give up. Giving up is just the easy way out. Struggle, fight, fail, and get back up. That's the only way you'll succeed. And, hey, your shading isn't BAD. I just think-- and this is common for a lot of artists, even me-- that people are often just too afraid of pressing down harder. Don't be afraid to go BOLD! You've already done it with colored pencils, and the results are amazing. :]

DON'T GIVE UP. PLEASE. You're amazing, really. I'm sorry I crit you so much, and don't tell you enough. You're an awesome person not because you're an awesome artist, but because you try so hard and you're so willing to learn. And because you're such of a nice person. Currently Hakase Mizuki has Demon Ororon, Ba_ku, and Demon Flowers (only volume 1 so far) liscensed by Tokyopop. Empire of Midnight, Asian Beat, Maybe Blue, and Monkey Magic haven't been as of now... I've only read three of her series (Ororon, Ba_ku, and Asian Beat) so far, because it's next to impossible to find scans of her works ANYWHERE. No takuban releases of Empire of Midnight, even (sequel to Ororon, if you didn't already know). It's all so discouraging. D:

I honestly tried to mimic her style at one point (er...eight grade, I think) and found it to be insanely difficult. I use too many lines to fit in with her smooth, flowing style. @_@

I've been wondering, though. Your style REALLY reminds me of something I've seen before, but for the life of me I can't place exactly what (I've read far too much manga to be healthy...). If you don't mind me asking, is there any artist you base your style upon, or is it just a natural sort of depiction?

Gosh. I still don't really even feel like I have much of a style. I've hopped all over the place and changed so much... I guess I just take snippets here and there from anything I see. :/ Do you honestly see any original style in what I draw?? XD I feel like I keep changing around and can't ever settle down...

My earliest influence was Demon Diary. I didn't keep much from that, haha, but... no, I don't really think there's anyone in particular. Though I guess I'd probably remind you in little pieces of various artists... haha. :p

Oh dang, yeah. She’s pretty up there in terms of obscurity. I was actually shocked when I found out they were bringing over Ba_ku…obscure AND only one volume? Though I suppose Tokyopop would be the one to do it out of any of the publishing companies… But the fact that you own the actual books is amazing. I get mine from the local library (I swear my library has the most obscure series EVER and I ADORE it) since no book store ever seems to stock Ororon over here…and for such a bargain! Excellent~~

See, though? Empire of Midnight got maybe three chapters (? I don’t remember the number…) released in WINGS magazine and then no one really ever saw it again. D: So depressing…It hasn’t even been made into book form at all in Japan since not enough chapters have been finished. I heard it was Othello-centric, though. <333

Dare I ask who your favorite character is? I fell in love with Mitsume the second I saw him, but I have a special place in my heart for Othello and Yotsuba (he’s such a brat, I swear).

Oh God, you haven’t read volume 4 yet? …Good luck with that, that’s all I’m gonna’ say. XD But yeah, my friend (Azazel, as I think you know her) had about the same reaction when she found out how short it was. But by now I can’t honestly see Mizuki writing anything terribly long, as her short stories are SO much better (in my totally biased opinion, of course).

And I can totally tell it’s your work when I see it in a thumbnail, even. You’ve got a very distinctive style and, like I said, it reminds me of something…Demon Diary did hit near it (I can kinda’ see some Raenef in your older works <33). Oh well, I love whatever style it is, so I can get over this nagging feeling anytime now. XD

A-Actually I'm still stuck somewhere in book 3, I think. ._.; I-I'm sorry!! And Ororon is just plain awesome. D: UUUGHHH I can't decide. I even like Chiaki, because she's so darn cute in the beginning of the book, with her terrible cooking and her almost-indecent shoulder-exposure. 8D;

Oh, don’t worry. I’m fairly slow at manga myself and tend to reread them for a few days and then set them aside for a few months. I swear I’ve read all of Ororon at least 5 times by now. I read most of my manga online because it’s not in America yet…or at least the volumes I’m on (I’m trying to catch up on some series, but most of them have, like, 25+ volumes and I’m not rich at all). >_> Katekyo Hitman Reborn, Eyeshield 21, Air Gear, Prince of Tennis…all the loooong ones. @_@

I used to ADORE DNAngel. Krad was my favorite (right ahead of Satoshi). XD I’m still reading it, though, because I think Argentine is adorable and I really hope he gets an awesome story arc or something. One of these days Sugisaki will start working on it again, hopefully (though I kinda’ want to see more Lagoon Engine Einsatz first…).

I Think I'm the exact opposite, actually. I love Minekura's new style, and her old one kinda...irked me. Well, I suppose early Saiyuki wasn't too bad, but the stuff before that...I didn't like it. D: Mainly how she drew 3/4th views...meh. My favorite series by her is Wild Adapter, then Saiyuki, the Honey Comb (<333), then Bus Gamer AAA, then Araiso (though I haven't read my of it, mind you). I honestly don't remember how I got into Saiyuki, though...I watched the anime before the manga, though (oh God, the anime. XD).

I swear, all my favorite manga go on forever. Could be because whatever Shonen Jump puts out I tend to love (I swear, a good 75% of what I read is JUMP...). D:

I actually have Suikoden 1-5 waiting for me at the library and I'm going to pick them up tomorrow. Immortal Rain; I've read the first volume and the second volume is on my computer, waiting for me to be read, but my .rar software is failing me at the moment, so...meh. Oooh, I really adore Immortal Rain. Yeah, it's pretty shojo, but Kaori Ozaki's action poses are the best ever. D8 And her style gets better as she goes, though nothing hugely amazing. I'm a total waste of space over Eury Evans, though. He's amazing. :] You should definately read more~ I really do like that manga.
And, yeah, Suikoden! It's amazing. I love the artist, seeing as how she draws just about everything herself. (The animals, all the different types of people, etc, etc) And the storyline's really good stuff.
'Fraid I haven't much from Shonen Jump, either. :( Sorry to say, but I'm that weirdo that never read more than one volume of Bleach, doesn't read Naruto, doesn't even read/watch DeathNote or anything of the sort. :(
I think the only long series/popular series I really read are Saiyuki and Angel Sanctuary, just because I can't get over Kaori Yuki's awesome art here and there. And her characters. u_u;

For some reason, Immortal Rain really reminds me of Violinist of Hameln. The styles aren’t similar; neither are the storylines. I dunno’ what it was, but I can’t get over it. D: And I DO have to admit that this is one of the rare shoujo titles I plan on reading for awhile…but I like it thus far. ^_^

Same here, about Chiaki. XD I can normally force myself to read shoujo if the girl doesn’t have huge eyes…those scare the crap out of me (I had to force myself through all of Fruits Basket…). The only exception thus far has been Kodocha, but that series is just AMAZING. <33

And no, no disappointment. Most of my friends have no idea what I’m talking about, so for you to know some is awesome enough~ I really need to find a life outside of manga and videogames one of these days. And fanfiction…argh.

I haven't read the Cain series, so I don't really know how well AS might compare. AS is okay; I've got a lot of peeves against it, but I'm already at book 8 and planning to get more. u_u; I don't like the way she creates heaven and hell, though heaven not being all that great, yeah. It's kinda on the cheesy side. And Setsuna needs to get over Sara. But there are lots of really memorable characters, and so it keeps me interested. A huge amount of things happen. u_u; (I like Arachne, hehehe. It's a guy. ;D )

I've read here and there, but mostly just little dabbles. I don't know so many books since I prefer to read ones I can own. :( Makes me dirt poor too, btw.

The Violinist of Hameln takes some getting used to, art-wise. It’s early 90’s manga and VERY stylistic, but I’ve come to adore it. It is honestly the most balanced series I have ever read. Enough comedy to keep it entertaining and enough angst to give it depth, but neither ever seems to overpower the other (which is what made me dislike the anime, because they removed all the comedy D:). Characters and storyline are amazing. It’s not really a series for people who hate mood-killers, though, because Watanabe does it intentionally. <333

DOGS is … so awesome. Miwa Shirow’s style is one of my absolute favorites (up there with Oh!Great and Minekura), and the way he (?) does action scenes…<333 There’s technically two series and two oneshots to the whole DOGS series, but I still think DOGS/Bullets & Carnage is my favorite one (the one that’s currently running in Ultra Jump). The storyline can seem kinda’ confusing at times, but there really has one been 23 chapters to the current series, so I guess it’s expected. High recommendation, though.

Hm. I suppose if anything I’d check out AS on the internet first, see if I like it or not. But I do have a thing for character development, so~~ possibly.

I think that if I stopped reading fanfiction…the world might implode. It’s almost all Harry Potter, too. XD I feel geeky…

Ah, TotA. XD I did go out and buy Guilty Gear XX Accent Core last weekend, just to let you know. I royally fail at it, but it’s very enjoyable. ANYWHO, I know I’d buy TotA if I had money and I was in stock at the same moment. But alas, no one really seems to stock it, for some reason (you realize it doesn’t even have a result on GameStop’s website? Or Best Buy?). And I must say that my money is currently geared towards the upcoming release of Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings (5 more days!!!). And then I’ll probably by the first Phoenix Wright… but TotA is on my Christmas list, don’t worry. And if I don’t get it…there’s always the money I invariably get from some of my aunts…put it to good use for once. XD
