eehm, well thats a good question... the way i do the smoothing, is to scan the pic, and leave it in a large resolution, like say 2048x1536. then i do the erode tool twice, and save it as a 2 bit ( black and white ).BMP file pic and fix the little errors that comes with the eroding. When that's done, i convert it back to 16 million colours abd I just colour the pics in that same 2048x1536 resolution and shade it. There are 2 ways to smooth it out...


#1: The shade tool... To create the shadings ( like i did in that new marcia pic )

Summary of the shade tool settings

Brushsize: 90 ( depending on how large the pic is, but its an estimation )

Hardness: 0 ( thats the most important that it is set on 0, otherwise you wont get that smooth touch )

Step: 1 ( Set it on 1 so that you get one smooth line instead of those stupid dots )

Density: 100 ( Depends on how you want to shade it, but i recommend 100 )

Thickness: 100 ( Makes full advantage of your brush )

Rotation: 0 ( So that it is one straight line )

Opacity: 40 ( This one is important, because if its increased, the more whiter it gets. 40 is an all-round kinda thing and always works for every pic )

Ok, if you have set the tools on these settings, then you can start shading. Make sure you use darker colours then normal. Like I did with those Rouge's piccies. Rouge's head isnt complete white when i coloured it, but "dark white" sorta speak. Use for the body around 40, and to create the strong short highlights, on quils or something, increase the opacity number with 5. Then shade it a little bit. If you will do this, you'll see you get nice effects, but also the lines are smoothed out. And besides, it is recovering anti-alias, meaning you dont get sharp edges around the lineart. Also, the highlights you already did, are way smoother then they were before. And then, crop it. Not to small though, otherwise it gets messed up. If you crop it, the little details will still be visible so that the pic looks smoother... Then finally save the pic as a .PNG to preserve the quality of the pic. ( if you save it in .JPEG, you get all those weird little spots... ) This is the way i do it now. ^^

#2 The softning tool... Set it on 2 procent to smooth it out. I did used it before, but gave me some trouble, so i use the method above... This one isnt recommendable...


Oh yeah, be warned though. If you're saving a .BMP file in a large resolution, the pic CAN be larger then 50 MB's... So if your gonna edit that, you need a damn good computer, otherwise your computer will crash... -_-'
