Hmm well for good realism you have to have good shading skills because on the entire face it has only a few lines that you actually draw in and the rest you create by shading lol it took me awhile to find that out more like 2 years lol
You should upload one of your pics so I can give you some tips and stuff. Well during my Junior year of highschool my art teacher had us draw some 3d blocks or cubes if you prefer lol but she had us pick a place where the light was shining on let's say it's shining on top and so the top will be very light, the side facing you would be a little darker, and the one furthest from you would be almost black but not quite.
Oi I wish I could show you I'm better at showing than explaining but you should DEFINETLY upload one of your images then you can get input from all sort of artists ^_^

Hmmmm....I don't really know how to explain things but a lot of people say that you should break it down to where it just looks like shapes such as a square or rectangle for the hand and cylindrical objects for the fingers. I try to use this method when I draw but instead I use my own obeservations of my hand or picturing it when somebody else does it. I'm sorry if I knew how to explain it I would but I can't -_-' you should try looking for tutorials on the net that's what I do ^_^
